Hello everyone. Just want some rules clarifications regarding the Sentinel and Giant Man questions.
1) My Sentinel occupies 4 squares on a map and can be attacked by any of the 12 surrounding. Giant Man only occupies one square and can be attacked through any of 8 surrounding him. Has there been any rule regarding Giant Man occupying more squares since, technically, he is BIGGER than the Sentinel?
2) The Sentinel is outdoors. I have read that Barrier protects figures from a Sentinel attack. Is there any reason why the Sentinel would not be protected by Barrier also?
3) Again Sentinel is outdoors and next to a building. I think this is the Indy map or the expansion maps because I've never seen it and I have Marvel and DC starter maps. My opponent runs his figures off the opposite side of the building and two squares away from the edge of the building. With Sentinel right against the side of the building, do I have Line Of Fire assuming his figures are still within my range?
My opponent said No because I would cross two lines of blocking terrain, the side of the building I was next to and the side of the building his figures were 2 squares away from. I said that since the Sentinel is considered a Big character he had Line of Sight to his figures. To make it fair I said that if I could see him, then he could see me as well. Which leads me to......
4) Do you halve your range when shooting to and from elevated terrain or only when shooting up?
5) I have Giant Man and a Sentinel on my team. Giant Man is in front of the Sentinel. Giant Man then blocks Line of Sight and Line of Fire to the Sentinel right? What about the fact that Sentinel occupies 3 more squares on the map? Is all an opponent has to do is shoot around the one square Giant Man is on and they can attack the Sentinel?
6) A Sentinel is standing on one square of hindering terrain. Does he get the modifier for being on that square regardless of where he is shot from, or does that shot have to cross the hindering terrain in order to get the modifier?
Thanks in advance to everyone who answers these questions. I'll probably have more questions later but these are good for now.
2) LoF is a two-way street. If figure A can see the Sentinel, then the Sentinel can see fig A. If figure B can't see the Sentinel, then the Sentinel can't see fig B.
3) Sentinels do not see over elevated terrain.
4) Range is only haved when drawing LoF to soaring figures.
i'm glad this isn't a test cuz i can't find a clear answer on 5 or 6. Maybe you should ask Hair10 in thread at the top of the forum. I'd like to see the correct answer for these.
All warfare is based on deception. Hence when able to attack we must seem unable. When we are near we must make the enemy believe we are far away when far away we must make him believe we are near. Feign disorder, and crush him. Sun Tzu
I'm pretty sure GM would block LoF to and from the Sentinel. As for the last part of your question, yes, definitely if an attacker's LoF is not going through GM's square, then GM will not block LoF to or from the Sentinel.
6) A Sentinel is standing on one square of hindering terrain. Does he get the modifier for being on that square regardless of where he is shot from, or does that shot have to cross the hindering terrain in order to get the modifier?
I'm pretty sure the ht bonus is only given if LoF crosses the ht square. Like 99% sure.
You said Sentinel would not be able to see over a building to figures on the ground on the other side. What about Giant Man? Will it be ruled that since he's Giant, figures will be able to target him from the opposite side of a building he is standing next to? And since he has no range he won't be able to attack them back.
The reason big/giant figures can't "see over a building" is the mechanics of blocking terrain. Go with me on a little ride here.
Blocking terrain on an outdoor map is elevated terrain. This terrain also blocks LoF. For example, Hawkeye on elevated terrain can not draw LoF through both an elevated blocking terrain line in his square and blocking terrain on the ground (like from a Barrier). By the same token, I'm pretty sure it states in Giant and Big figure rules that blocking terrain will block LoF to and from them.
What I am now curious about is if a Giant or Big figure on elevated terrain can draw LoF down to a grounded target even if a Barrier or grounded Big/Giant figure is in the way.
On another note, while I take pride in providing a correct answer almost all the time going by memory, I'm surprised this thread hasn't attracted the attention of folks who are a) more knowledgeable and b) tend to cut and paste rule references.
Ok, let's say that Sentinel or Giant Man is on elevated terrain. One would say that due to their size, regardless of where they are on the building, as long as they are within range, someone on the ground should be able to shoot them.
I guess I'm seeing it more like "this makes sense" because of their size and not going by the actual rules. An elevated blocking terrain which just happens to be the edge of the building blocks LOS or LOF to or from a character 60 ft tall??
