Okay...so I have been playing this game since its debut in 2002. It has always been that you cannot combine running shot with RCE or charge with CCE, and you sure cannot use HSS with either one.

But at a tourney last weekend, the judge of the venue allowed my opponent to use RS with RCE. He then showed me in his FAQ and also in the Universe PAC that there is NO WORDING in the rules that prevents using this combination.

I know the wording used to be in the rules, but even after my own search through the online FAQs and rule books for UNIVERSE and INDY, I cannot find it anywhere.

Could it be that you can now combine powers like this? It seems that certain characters now become incredibly useful again...(Hello IC Cyclops!)

But listen, the reason I post this thread is because I want the truth, and the documentation to back it up. Sooo...if anyone can show me a link to the rules concerning this I would much appreciate it.

But if no one can find it, does that mean that the omission of these words makes this possible?

i don't think you can because one is an attack action and one is a power aciton, but i'm not a rules lawyer so don't quote me

There you have it... They are separate power actions. In order to use ranged combat action, you must use a power action, which is not provided by Running shot, which is a free ranged combat action.

To back-up the FaithlessOne:

RS is a Power Action that grants a Free Ranged Combat Action.

RCE is a Power Action, nor a Ranged Combat Action. So, the Free Ranged Combat Action from RS cannot be use to activate RCE.

Now, Substitute Charge for RS, Close for Ranged, and CCE for RCE, and you get the the other answer.

I think of it this way:

A Turn in Heroclix is in reality a few scant seconds. Some characters have the ability to move and hit you simultaneously (RS or Charge) and some have the ability to conentrate and do more from either ranged or close-comabt. They can't do both because they only have that scant few seconds to act.

It's all in the wording. RCE says you have to make a ranged combat ATTACK. RS says you make a ranged combat ACTION. Those 2 words, ATTACK and ACTION, make all the difference. It's one of the reasons I like Magog alot. He can charge with an object and use Exploit Weakness all at the same time.
