Damage Value, Damage Dealt, Feats and the Rule of 3 Question
Is this legal?
1. Can a character with Charge use that power and Haymaker together?
2. How does the +2 to damage bonus from Haymaker apply? To damage Value or Damage Dealt? ( I believe its Damage Value)
3. How does the Rule of 3 affect damage dealt and damage value combined?
I.E. Can this happen?
Can a character that starts with 10 Movement Charge and Super Strength and a Damage Value of 4, have its Damage value perplexed up to 5, activate Charge, move 2 spaces and pick up a heavy object and then move 3 spaces and use the free close combat action to activate the Haymaker Feat and smash an enemy figure for 9 damage?
If I was going to answer this question on another site, I'd probably say this:
"What, no HeroClix1234?
1) Yes.
2) Haymaker applies to Damage Value (hence the little +2 next to the Value icon at the top)
3) Rule of 3 only affects Values - whether its Speed Value, Attack Value, Defense Value, Damage Value, or Range Value. Damage Dealt is a seperate entity - that takes into account things like objects and Critical Hits. So (for example) Magog has a Damage Value of 5. He can get his damage Perplexed up to 6 and still use Haymaker to max out his Damage Value to 8 (5 + rule of 3). Now Magog could still pick up a 3-d Soda Machine (+3 to damage dealt) and roll a Critical Hit (+1 to damage dealt). Thereby his Damage Value would still be 8 but his Damage Dealt would be 12.
Hope that helps..."
Or at least something like it...
Visible Dials and Pushing Damage need to be optional. This is the way.

Actually, the Soda Machine's +1 bonus is to Damage Value, not Damage Dealt, and thus still falls under the Rule of Three. The total damage dealt above would be 11, with the perplex having gone to waste.
The perplex would be best used either on Magog's Attack Value or someone else entirely.
Of course, being knocked back 11 squares will almost certainly be enough to get them to hit blocking terrain, if you've got the angle and there aren't any characters in the way, bringing the damage dealt back up to 12.
If you're really lucky, you'll knock them off a rooftop, for a total 13 damage dealt.

Nope. Objects modify Damage Dealt, not Damage Value. But you're right that the soda machine is only a +1 bonus, so in the above example, Magog would actually do 10 clicks of damage (5 base DV, +2 for Haymaker, +1 for Perplex for a DV of 8; then +1 to damage dealt for the object, and +1 for the critical hit).
And keep in mind that if Magog is using Haymaker, he cannot use Exploit Weakness.

Remember that damage dealt by knockback is separate from damage dealt by the attack itself. So it would be 11 damage dealt and then 1 or 2 damage dealt. This is important in case the character has Toughness on their dial when they are dealt the knockback damage. (Not that they are still alive much longer.)
