does Nimrod's pulse Wave attack still have a 5 range ?
(no line of site over 6)
or does Nimord have a 3 range pulse wave ?
(6 range divided in half)
Darkness text
Characters with a range value greater then 6 have a range value of 6 instead. Perplex may not be used to increase a range value to a number greater than 6. Powers and abilities that affect characters up to 10 squares away instead affect characters only up to 6 squares away.
Pulse Wave text
Give this character a ranged combat action. Reduce its range value by half.
All powers, team abilities, and feats possessed by characters within range of this attack are ignored until the action has been
resolved.
Nimrod has a range of 5. The key here is "reduce range by half" in the PW description. During the PW action, the range is less than 6, so Darkness will not effect it.

Really? To me it sounds like Nimrod's range of 10 (which is greater than 6) would be replaced with a range of 6, which would then be halved to three when performing a Pulse Wave attack.
It follows the logical progression:
Quote
Characters with a range value greater then 6
Nimrod has a range value greater than 6.

have a range value of 6 instead.
Nimrod now has a range value of 6 instead.

Nimrod's range is reduced by half, to 3, for the attack.
It seems to be no different than targeting a soaring character, which uses the same wording.

But the PW attack range is a replacement value (from the Icons Rule book, page 14), and the range is temporarily replaced by half of its original value. Half of 10 is 5, and 5 is less than 6.
From the rule book:
When a character’s combat value is reduced by half, that is also a replacement value.

I should point out, too, that this is the way hair10 had ruled over on the WK boards a little while ago.
However, he has also said that he is re-evaluating this descision with the release of Icons. To the best of my knowledge (and please correct me if anyone *has* seen his latest ruling), he has not posted the re-evaluation. Until he does, I will continue to rule as he has currently stated. And if the ruling changes, so be it.
Just out of curiosity... If I play Darkenss in a game with hair10, does he become hair05?
No. He informs you that it was intended for Darkness to only affect range on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and between the hours of 4 and 8 PM on Sundays.
