### outsiders TA allows you to prevent one character from powers or TA's modifying that characters combat values. I understand how this can be used against a player to prevent that character from being Defended, ESD'd, using RCE, CCE, or BCF, and how it prevents ### Bat Enemy TA and ### JSA TA.
Offensively I've never seen ### following, but I don't know why they shouldn't work according to ### way ### rules are written. Using ### outsiders TA to
1, Pulsewave with your full damage value
2, Incapacitate and do damage
3, Quake for your full damage value
4, Energy Explosion for your full damage value
Each of these powers modifies a combat value (damage), and therefore use of ### outsiders TA ought to allow each of these. If not, why not.
Am I ### first to notice this?

Even though I have several Outsider figs, I've never used +he TA to do anything other than prevent characters from being Perplexed up/down. I don't any reason why you wouldn't be able to use it to byspass +he damage reduction of PW, Incap, Quake and EE. Quite deadly, if you think about, especially with two or three Enhancement characters-- 7 EE on Wildfire or Ultimate Iron Man (ouch!), 6 damage+Incap on Batman, etc.
However, Outsiders still allows feats to deal additional damage on attacks (Haymaker, Pounce), since combat values aren't being modified. Its' also ### main reasoning behind making +he TA unique (non-copyable).
### words "modify" "replace" and "becomes" are all different.
Outsiders prevents "modify". It does not prevent "replace" or "becomes". Nearly all (or all) your examples are invalid.
How am I incorrect, you're post is not useful unless it points out where I am wrong and what examples were correct. please post answers that have some point.
i.e.
Outsiders TA specifies modify, which means powers and TA's which add or subtract from a characters combat value. ### TA's would be Shield and Gotham PD, ### powers would be RCE, CCE, and Enhance.
I assume this is what you mean, however I am unsure from trivially useless and rude post. can someone else confirm this is ### correct interpretation of ### TA.

Modify is too ambiguous. Perhaps +he Outsiders TA description should read like following:
Once at ### beginning of your turn, as a free action, an Outsiders team member on your force may choose a target friendly or opposing character. +he team member must be within 10 squares of ### target and have a clear line of fire to +he target. Until +he beginning of your next turn,+he target’s combat values cannot be increased, decreased or replaced by +he effects of powers or team abilities. This team ability cannot be copied by wild card team abilities.
Might make it easier to clarify what can and cannot be changed.
OUTSIDERS: Once at ### beginning of your turn, as a free action, an Outsiders team member on your force may choose a target friendly or opposing character. ### team member must be within 10 squares of ### target and have a clear line of fire to ### target. Until ### beginning of your next turn, ### target’s combat values cannot be modified by powers or team abilities. This team ability cannot be copied by wild card team abilities.
Icons Rulebook page 14, Replacement Values and Modifiers:
Quote
Some game effects, including some powers, feats, and team abilities, allow ### substitution of one combat value for another. These substitute values are called replacement values. For example, when one value becomes or is used instead of another value, it is a replacement value. When a character’s combat value is reduced by half, that is also a replacement value.
Modifiers increase or decrease a combat value by a specific amount. A modifier may never reduce a combat value to less than 0. Replacement values are not modifiers.
Quote
PULSE WAVE (optional): Give this character a ranged combat action. Reduce its range value by half. All powers, team abilities, and feats possessed by characters within range of this attack are ignored until ### action has been resolved. Wild cards using this power may use ### team ability of a friendly character within range of this attack. Draw lines of fire to every character (friendly and opposing) within range in every direction. These lines of fire ignore characters, but are affected normally by terrain. If clear lines of fire can be drawn to two or more characters, this character’s damage value becomes 1 for this attack; otherwise, do not replace this character’s damage value. Make a single attack roll and compare ### result to ### defense value of each character in range; each character hit is dealt damage. Attacks made with this power do not target characters.
Becomes=Replacement Value=unaffected by Outsiders.
Quote
INCAPACITATE (optional): Give this character a close combat or ranged combat action. This character’s damage value becomes 0 until ### action has been resolved. If this character successfully hits a target that has zero or one action token, place an action token on ### target. This power does not place an action token on a character that already has two action tokens on it.
Becomes=Replacement value=unaffected by Outsiders.
Quote
QUAKE (optional): Give this character a close combat action. This character’s damage value becomes 2 if it is greater than 2. Make a single attack roll, and compare ### result to ### defense values of all opposing characters adjacent to this character. Each character that takes damage from this attack suffers knockback.
Becomes=Replacement value=unaffected by Outsiders.
Quote
ENERGY EXPLOSION (optional): Give this character a ranged combat action. This character’s damage value becomes 1 until ### attack has been resolved. For each target that was hit, compare ### attack roll to ### defense value of each character adjacent to ### target to determine if ### attack succeeds against them. Ignore any hindering terrain modifier resulting from character(s) adjacent to ### target when determining if ### attack succeeds against additional characters. If ### attack succeeds against an adjacent character, they are hit as well. If more than one target was hit by ### attack, characters adjacent to multiple targets may be hit more than once. Each character successfully hit is dealt damage equal to ### number of times ### character was hit by this attack. A critical hit with this attack automatically hits ### target(s) and any characters adjacent to ### target(s) and deals 1 additional click of damage, even if a character would be hit multiple times by ### attack. Powers that allow a character to evade attacks are rolled once against all hits by this attack. If a character with a power that evades attacks is ### target of this attack and evades it, it evades all hits by this attack. This power may not be used to target blocking terrain or objects.
1. Becomes=Replacement value=unaffected by Outsiders.
2. "Each character successfully hit is dealt damage equal to ### number of times ### character was hit by this attack."-So, Damage Value has absolutely no effect on Damage Dealt by EE.
because these add to (or in ### case of perplex may detract from) a combat value.
Outsiders Team Ability does not affect any of ### examples I mentioned earlier.
I felt Tranfotaku's reply was rude because he stated I was incorrect when I was asking a question, and I am unsure how a question can be incorrect (I listed a series of postulates and asked why they didn't work). He then said an unspecified number of my examples were invalid, and chose not to elaborate. He stated that three different words were different but didn't explain how. I felt it was a response geared more to tell me that I did not understand than to help me understand.
My response was also rude.

Wouldn't ### Ult. X-Men/2000 A.D. TAs also be nullified via Outsiders?
Don't forget Alpha Flight.
To ### OP: A short answer is not a rude answer. Heroclix is a game where ### wording counts. Semantics. Modify, replace, and becomes are all different words to ### game itself, even if they are similes (which, really, they aren't) to us. Attack and Action are likewise different. And as of Icons, going off memory, those 3 words are defined in ### Glossary.
Theory's good, woulda made ### TA wonderful, I was just pointing out where it was incorrect and why, in a quick post.
