hi,
i was wondering and this is only because i hate hero clix filght stands.
is it illegal to cut off the old flight stands,
glue the figure to the base and use mageknight 2.0 flight cups?
what do you folks think?
it doesn't change the figure b/c the wing speed mode is on the base.
just a thought.
From the WK Approved Play Comprehensive Tournament Rules (the one for all product lines, not just HC):
5.9a Illegal Figures
The head envoy may, at his or her discretion, disallow the use of any figure that is painted in such a way as to disclose the statistics for the figure, conceal information on the base of the figure, or mislead other
players as to the type or nature of the figure. A figure whose dial has been modified in any way is also considered an illegal figure. The envoy shall be the final judge in any discrepancy involving an illegal figure. If a figure is discovered to be illegal during the course of a battle or tournament, the player using the illegal figure loses the current battle and is disqualified from the tournament. While these rules are explicitly directed at miniature figures, all WizKids games and game components are subject to this policy. The head envoy of any event may disqualify any game piece that is modified in an intentionally or inadvertently confusing or deceptive manner.
Basically, as long as you are clear about what you are doing, it should be okay. Definitely ask your judge first, though, because if he or she feels that no flight stand (wing symbol or no) would be too misleading or confusing, they could disallow that figure(s).
so,
on a different point.
if you took a madcat from the mechwarrior line and put all glued all sorts of weapons on it,
but did not change the dial or the base or vital stats in any way just the mini,

that's illegal?
huh!
thanks,

The Battle Master would have to decide if it was misleading or not. Depending on just how much stuff you glued on to the figure, it could be disallowed. A few cosmetic tweaks probably wouldn't be a problem, though.
General rule of thumb I use for my venue when it has come up is if I can still tell that Batman is Batman, you are probably okay. But if you've gone and placed Doctor Fate on Doctor Strange's base because you like Strange's dial better (and, hey, he's a wildcard so he can still copy JSA!), that would be a no-no. Even when I do allow the modified figures, I make sure all the players know what is going on and if there are any complaints before the games start, then that modded character is out.
Here's a suggestion I use whenever I play a modded figure -- take the original with you to the venue.
That way, if anyone complains, you can still use the original figure and not mess up your team.
For example, I took a Batman sculpt from the 2006 Free Comic Book Day Batman (the one where he's got a foot up on the gargoyle's head -- the same as the Icons one). Then I mounted it on a V Legacy Bats base -- while removing the gargoyle and putting his foot up on Spidey's wall from Sinister. I painted Bats all black (both gloss and flat), did a subdued bat symbol on his chest, and he looks like a Batman Begins figure.
When I play him, I also take Stealthjumping V Legacy Bats with me, in case anyone has a problem with it.
