I've been pouring over the figures for the past few days and finally came up with a team build I think may be suitable.
Mu SR Storm
Mu Gambit
Mu Beast
263
I was planning on squeezing in scarlet witch until I realized that having a theme team gives you a free PC each round, meaning I have 37 points to play around with (although if this were 4 years ago scarlet witch from avengers would be my most played, since she's a free moving taxi with PC, for those of you that played then, you'd probably understand what I'm talking about!)
I like the idea of Moving storm up with beast (I'm not 100% sure about taxing anymore so I'd have to see the legality of that, though I am aware of the NAAT). I like the energy explosion that storm and gambit provide against cuckoo teams (not sure how prevalent those are in my area, but I'm planning on scoping out the other players when I get a chance), and beast's deep dial of utility as well as reasonable attack values and defensive skills make him pretty strong.
Any thoughts on possible BFCs, feats, etc worth putting in? I was thinking AP on gambit and possibly storm, but am not terribly familiar with all of the new feats so I was unsure as to what some of the stronger feats available for a team like this might be. (edit: after reading some of the various feats, insider information looks really strong on pretty much anyone if cuckoos are a dominant force in my area--it certainly seems like the mutant theme in general certainly is from what I observed last week).
OR should I scrap beast for the SR Emma frost? It leaves me with 3 points left over, and I trade out a lot of clicks of perplex (plus those oh so handy outwit clicks) for 4 clicks of willpower+support as well as the utility of mind control and psychic blast.
Also, there are 3 Beasts in that set. Please be more specific, and use a #2 pencil. Fill in the entire circle for each response, and turn your exam sheet over when you are done.
As much as I hate Gambit (as I hate 95% of the mutants created in the 1990s), I will admit he's got a very good dial. RS, L/C, Stealth and EE. If he had Ultimates TA there'd be no reason to play anyone else!
What you should do is take out Beast and Scarlet Witch and throw on the ol' Living Monolith.
Why Monolith? Not only will this reduce cries of "Cheese!" because you have a Giant on your team, but you get to chant "Mon-o-lith! Mon-o-lith!" after his attacks, a la "Imhotep", from The Mummy.
Use Storm to taxi him up, then drop him on the Telephone Booth. Monolith does a quick-change, and suddenly he's thirty feet tall, and jonesing for, like, fifteen thousand White Castle burgers. Now he can aim over the heads of the Stealthed opponents to shoot their taxis.
Now, doesn't that sound like more fun than winning?

Nah man, like was suggested elsewhere, use him with Colossus and FBS LM out, he turns into a Giant ball of PAIN bwahahahh!
Contrary to popular belief, I do know what I'm doing

If you are talking about the SR Scarlet Witch from Avengers, she IS a Mutant too, as are those three IIRC. So you could do a 4 piece team with them and still be "theme".

I'm a little concerned about stealth teams currently, I'm pretty sure this team would completely wreck any schoolgirl team with all the EE floating around.
the barrier from SR scarlet witch might be really useful but I dont really have any way to deal with something like two batmans and 150 whatever. Unless I start basing figures, which seems like a bad idea with a team like this. I could drop beast for the uncommon Quicksilver--the ultimates team ability would be pretty useful, but I hate the idea of losing the beastly beast with a deep dial of outwit and perplex.
I could always run Bright Lights or whatever I suppose, as I dont even REALLY need to ignore it, depending on how the match is going. Barrier+smoke cloud will be pretty interesting vs. stealth teams as well. Perhaps I'm overthinking all this.
Based on my observations last week, I'm expecting to see quite a few x-men/mutant teams, and I'm pretty sure there's one guy running a stealth team. I'm thinking Bright Lights and Inside Information.
Perhaps A more finalized version would be in order here:
Lab Coat Beast=73
SR Storm=100
Gambit=90
Scarlet Witch=35
Point Total=298
I want to fit in Insider info but it looks like I dont have the points, unfortunately. Bright lights for BFC and call it a day, or drop scarlet witch and/or beast for two different figs and fit in that feat, and maybe AP?
