Superman is in soaring mode next to a Sentinel on the same elevation(adjacent). Does Superman need to roll a break away from the sentinel since it can reach him with a close combat attack? Or, does the break away roll not need to be made since Superman is soaring and Sentinels are grounded figures?
Close combat confuses me more than long range combat. all this adjacent square- breaking away ####. But I wanna learn so im not just limited to Long range attacks and i can actually use someone good like my Unique Hulk.

Breakaway is only ever associated with movement. You roll for it when you wish to move* while adjacent to an opposing figure. It and close combat both occur when figures are adjacent, but other than that aren't related at all; you do not have to break away to punch someone.
Does that help at all?
*"Move" specifically refers to movement and move actions. It does not include ranged nor close combat actions.
That does help, but say Unique Catwoman enters a square adjacent to Unique Joker. I know her turn is over but does Joker automatically have to try a Breakaway or does he only HAVE to do that if his player wishes to use a move command on him? can Joker attack Catwoman? or does Catwoman get the first attempt at an attack or what?

Bottomline is, I dont like the idea that if my Heroclix wants to use a close combat action that the opponent gets the first shot in just because the move ended when my Heroclix entered the adjacent square.

The way the current combat rules are:
Catwoman moves next to Joker to make an attack but must stop and end her move and turn as soon as she becomes adjacent to Joker. Next is Joker's turn and he can attempt to break away so that Catwoman doesn't push next turn to beat the snot out of him or he can make an attack on her in order to draw first blood. But yes, the current rules make it so that your character runs up next to an enemy and stops so that the enemy can hit you first. However, it is rumored that this combat system is being playtested to allow figures to move and attack in the same turn.
Joker would only have to try to breakaway if he tries to move away from Catwoman. It's one of the downsides of charging into battle, your opponent will often get the first shot in.
You could get around this by using a character with charge or running shot. Taxiiing (having a flyer carry Catwoman into battle giving her the first shot) is probably the most common way around it though. Or use Telekinesis to move a friendly into close combat.

I understand using a flyer to move catwoman in but is using telekinesis the same thing as flying in regards to moving characters? also can catwoman be carried on consecutive turns and the flyer be pushed or is carrying just for one turn

Flying involves carrying someone (ie. Hawkman picks up an adjacent friendly Catwoman and moves his distance, after he is done moving Catwoman is placed in an adjacent square). Telekinesis is moving someone without moving (ie. Jean Gray is adjacent to Cyclops, she moves him up to 10 squares but she stays). Very different.
Catwoman could be carried on consecutive turns either by one character (pushing the carrier) or by two different characters. In fact, Catwoman could be carried multiple times in the same action (ie. Hawkman carries her up beside Superman, Superman carries her up to where she wants to go).
Carrying is only for the movement of the flyer. They must pick up the character at the beginning of their move and place them adjacent at the end.
