Hey I am wondering about the wording in the rulebook with the duo attack power.

Here is the power:

"DUO ATTACK Give this character a power action to make a duo
attack. It makes two separate attacks against opposing characters as
free actions (making two separate attack rolls). These attacks can
be close combat attacks or ranged combat attacks (ranged combat
attacks can have only a single target). Resolve the first attack before
making the second; this character’s damage value is modified by –1
for the second attack, to a minimum damage value of 1. If this
character is defeated as a result of the first attack in a duo attack,
the second attack is not made."

It says it makes two separate attacks against opposing characters. Can the two separate attacks be against the same character?

Also, where it says that range combat attacks can have only a single target, does that mean you have to shoot the same enemy twice, or does it mean that you can only use 1 in the attack?

Yes, you can target two seperate characters (assuming that you are not in base contact with a single foe who is not knocked out by the first attack).

When making a Duo attack you treat your charcater(s) as if it only has one lightning for each attack.

Sure. The plural is there more to indicate that both attacks do not have to be against the same target.


It means you can only use one target/-thingy (yeah, I am technical, aren't I). Not a big deal for most Duos (only a couple have more than one ), but does prevent the ones with more than one from targetting a low DV character as a back up if you miss your primary target.

What powers can be used with the duo ability? I heard only Super Strength and Steal Energy??

So for an example; if you had B/C/F's you could only make one attack using this power correct? If you wanted to use the duo ability, you would have to just use a basic attack yes?

Another example for range; if you had EE or Incap., again you could only attack once using these powers instead of twice??

Was told by a judge during a tournament before that only two powers work with the so that you may use both attacks and again; those were Super Strength and Steal Energy.

I hope this is wrong, as it makes duo characters pretty useless in some ways. Thank you.

No, the judge is right. The duo attack only lets you use two close or ranged combat attacks, not actions. Most powers activate on some sort of action rather than an attack - of the standard powers, pretty much only Super Strength and Steal Energy activate from a close combat attack.

I hope this changes though before the Brave and the Bold come out, as it is looking like most of the set will be Duo's. I'll probably skip that set, and I like DC sets more then Marvel. After that one tournament, I have not used a duo since. Waste of the points. King and Queen would have been fun otherwise.

I kinda like the Duo ability, actually. The ability to attack twice in one turn can be very potent if you know how to use it.

I've learned to like duos, I hate them at first. Best if they are either cheap, or have high damage.

It's why I like Jack and Ten-- they're only 60 points for what amounts to ranged flurry and a wildcard. Not a killer piece, but most underrated piece in the game.

The key to being a good duo is simple: damage output. A high damage value is even better when you get to use it twice.

Poor?

Thor and Loki, with a single action, can deal a total of 11 damage (5+1 from Perplex for the first duo attack and 4+1 still from Perplex for the second)... and that's without objects.

In other words, in one single action, the can completely KO any standard sized character in the game.

How is that poor?

They probably have been letting the Duos use Psychic Blast, RCE, etc... So yeah, if you can't use all your powers, Duos seem a little less.

The Duo attack ability is like any other power in the game -- it gives you options. For example, using Power Man & Iron Fist, f you want to Exploit Weakness, don't use the Duo attack. But if you want to do 5 damage to your opponent, then use the Duo attack. More options = goodness.

In the case of Thor & Loki, not poor at ALL.

Duo Attack is like having perma-Flurry-lite, except it can work at range as well.
