I've only been playing a couple of months and need clarification on this ability. I was playing a 1000 pt game this weekend and was using Secret Invasion Hercules, unless I'm just misunderstanding the Avengers wording it says I can give Herc a free move action, basically moving him twice in one turn. My opponent said that it only grants me a free move action if I had more characters than actions available. I had 7 characters so my logic says I had 7 actions available, this ability giving an 8th move action. I know I'd still have to assign action tokens and apply pushing damage if it applies (it doesn't in this case). I finally deferred to him since he's been playing longer than me, but I'm still curious who's right? Also he was using outwit and perplex with stealth characters on themselves and others outside hindering terrain, is this allowed?
AVENGERS
When you give a character using the Avengers team ability a move action, it does not count toward your available actions for the turn.
As you can see, the word "free" never actually appears in that description. As short hand, people commonly refer to it as "a free move", but that's not really what it is.
All the TA lets you do is give an Avenger a move action (plain, old regular move action) and then that action does not count against your alotted actions for the turn. So if you are playing 300 points, 3 actions, and for your first action you move Hercules up the map, you'll still have 3 actions left to do whatever.

It's not a free movement action per se, it just doesn't count towards your alloted actions for that turn. But it only applies to move actions, not power or combat actions.
An example would be this:
500 Points - 10 figures... all with the Avengers TA.
You can move all 10 figures that turn, even though you only have 5 actions per turn.
It's a nice team ability, my favorite actually. I'm able to set my forces up quickly for a tactical advantage.
One thing to remember though... when doing a break away, you must declare what action you are doing. You must declare you are doing a move, combat, or power action before you roll break away. (This always applies no matter what TA you possess). But the reason it is even more important with the Avengers TA is if you are doing a break away attempt for a move action, and you fail, it doesn't count towards your alloted actions for that turn.

AVENGERS: When you give a character using the Avengers team ability a move action, it does not count toward your available actions for the turn.
ok, the amount of actions you get per round is determined by the build total of your force. ie: if you play a 400 point game, you get 4 actions. the number of characters you have is irrelevant.
the Avengers team ability simply means that you can give a move action to a team member and it doesn't count towards your total actions.
400 point team = 4 actions per turn.
Now, let's say you had 8 characters on your 400 point team and 4 of them were Avengers. all 4 avengers could be given a move action and you would still have 4 actions remaining, because the move actions don't count towards your total. they can move for 'free'. they still get token'd for the move action(s) however.
So in my 1000 pt team with 7 characters do I have 10 actions 3 being unusable or do I have 7 actions with this ability giving me an 8th (move action only)

With your 1,000 Point Team with one Avengers TA member on it, you'll have 10 actions per round. But you can get a total of 11 actions if you use your Avengers TA for a movement.
But since you have 7 figures, yes, you'd have 7 actions available, but if you used Herc to do a move action... you'd get a total of 8 actions per turn.

In a 1000 point game, you'd typically have 10 actions (specific scenario rules might change that).
So if you only have 7 characters on the team, you're already got 3 more actions than you need and the Avengers TA is wasted.
The Avengers TA works best in small point games (100-300) with lots of characters. The small point part helps because your opponent is similarly limited with his actions and he might not have a way to easily 'create' actions like you can with the TA. Meanwhile, you can spend the first couple turns moving all of your Avengers into position without burning through all your available actions.

My team was HoT Thor , HoT Pluto, HoT Heimdall, AA Circe, BatB Nekron, SI Herc, and Chief. 1000 pts exactly. My plan was to use Herc to move and snag my opponents objects then using the Avengers' TA return to my side. He'd have to sit out next round due to double tokens, but I was up against Crisis KC Superman and didn't want to get smacked in the face with flurry with 2 objects. I was told that I couldn't move twice in one turn period. So next turn super strength was outwitted and objects taken and double hit with flurry came anyway.
