Hi HCRealms....
i'm playing in my first tournament this wednesday, and i'm putting together a team, and i am just flat out stuck on my last piece, and was wondering if anyone out there could provide some thoughts???
here it goes:
the game is 300 point golden age, with a stipulation that one character must have MIND CONTROL. i guess the theme of the tournament is "YOU ARE UNDER MY CONTROL." the character that is the mind controller gets to use mental shields for free.
So far i have Psycho-Man and Impossible Man both from SI. my inventory is pretty limited so its not like i can throw together a themed team, or even use Team Abilities with any serious effect.
so, for my final piece i was thinkin about some sort of beatstick or an HSS'er. I've got 47 points left if i wanna tweak with feats, or 77 points left total. I was thinkin along the lines of Bi-Beast as a beat stick, or even She-Thing. Vector is a candidate for that awesome TK he has, and for HSS'ers i was think Max Mercury or JOhnny Quick, but neither really do a ton of damage.
anybody out there with some thoughts on how to tweak that last piece with some serious effectiveness???
HELP!!! please
With only 77 points available, I would consider using the Iron Fist from Secret Invasion. Mind Control someone and have them run over to him. If they have a damage reducer use his Exploit Weakness, if they don't you can flurry them. That would still leave you 7 points for feats. I would consider putting Inside Information and Alias on Psycho-man. The +2 from Inside Information should help make sure that you are hitting with Mind Control and the Alias just to add another layer of protection in case someone attacks him.
I have been looking at these two figures and think you're very limited to filling out your team at 300 points. Neither of them generates very much damage.
If I were going to play this team, I would be looking for three things -- a figure with Running Shot (or move+attack ranged figure), a Charging figure, and a tie-up figure. Very tough to get all that in 77 points.
You say your collection is limited -- can you give us an idea what figures you do have?
If I HAD to use these two figures (I'm not an Impossible Man fan at all), I would probably add:
Psycho-Man 151
Impossible Man 72
R Blackhawks 23
R Blackhawks 23
E Blackhawks 30
Total: 299
I would send one Rookie in to tie up my opponent's ranged attackers, use the other two Blackhawks to drop down the defense of Psycho-Man's mental attacks, and then have Psycho-Man mental attack away. Hopefully your opponent has some Mind-Contollable figures that can cause a lot of damage to his own team.
Another tactic to consider is to put a bunch of figures with Battle Fury on your team -- since you KNOW Mind Control is going to be a factor in the game.
ive got most of Secret Invasion, a lot of DC 75, Avengers, and some Hypertime. I do have the iron fist piece mentioned above. thanks for the input guys.
i'm not too familiar with the feats, so that was another concern i had. when i DO play, i never use them. like i said, one of my concerns was doing damage, but with Vector i figured one click was a freebie every time i used his TK. I also thought about using H. the Duck on account of his perplex. with master mind being a factor, i figured controlling 3 of my opponents pieces and using them to decimate each other would be my biggest advantange, if the opponents bring some beat-sticks to the game.
Rep to both of you....thanks for the feedback. as i said, this is my first tourney and want to bring some thunder to this.

Reason: adding rep
another thought i had was using the Camouflage feat. its basically stealth when youre adjacent to a wall or blocking terrain, and only 5 points! so as long as i am able to position effectively, i'd be all set.
1) Multiple target Mind Control can be tricky. Remember, for the fraction of the turn you have Mind Control of three targets, they are ALL on your team -- so it is very hard to use them to bash each other to bits. The timing has to be worked out carefully. Remember the timing like this:
A) Psycho-Man (P) uses Mind Control on targets A, B, and C. D is another opposing character not targeted by the Mind Control.
..........A
P.......B.......D
..........C
B) Psycho-Man gives A an action -- in this case, Psycho-Man tells A to shoot at D. After A shoots at D, A reverts back to your opponent's team.
C) Psycho-Man gives B an action -- in this case, Psycho-Man tells B to conduct a close combat attack on A. Note that B could NOT conduct a ranged attack against D, because B is now adjacent to an opposing figure, A. After B swings at A, B reverts back to your opponent's team.
D) Psycho-Man gives C an action -- in this case, Psycho-Man tells C to close combat attack B. See the note above regarding friendly and enemy (at this moment) positioning. After C attacks B, C reverts back to your opponent's team.
E) End of Psycho-Man's action.
2) Now, there are some very interesting possibilities to consider. If Figure A had Pulse Wave, then A could have used Pulse Wave on Figure D, also damaging Figures B and C (which is legal). However, Figure B could not have used Pulse Wave, as he is now adjacent to an enemy figure, A. (Barring B being a Sharpshooter, of course.) Also, think about simply turning off powers, which do take an action to do. Taking an action -- even a free action -- frees to the figure from Mind Control.
3) Camouflage is 8 points, not 5, and it is NOT Stealth. Thinking of it that way will get you in trouble. Here is the wording:

Be careful, because all it blocks is LOF for a ranged combat attack. It does NOT block LOF for other things, such as Outwit (Outwit your Shape Change and your figure no longer meets the prerequisite for Camouflage, so he is totally exposed and gets blasted to bits.) Perplex and Prob Control still work against a Camouflaged figure as well.
Wow.....those are some things i didnt consider. Great points Wolviefan9. thanks for all of this, because these are things i had not considered, and could really come back to bite me.
i've been trying to forcast some of the other mind control figures that i may come up against, and i guess i sort expect to face off against a lot of outwit. oh well, i guess i'll find out on wednesday. thanks again........
If anyone else out there has some thoughts or comments.....i'd love to hear them. another team i had thought about putting together was the Queen Aga'po and Zamaron combo, and that would also leave me some wiggle room for a beat-stick and/or some points for feats.
