I've got an "old" and "new" sentinel which both have multiattack and capture. I've been told you cannot multiattack to capture but I've been going over the wording in the rules book for the sentinel and I'm not so sure on that one. Here goes...
Quote
MULTIATTACK (optional) Give this character a power action. It can use
two free actions against up to two targets per action. These free actions may
be power actions, close combat actions, and ranged combat actions, though
free actions gained from this power can’t be used to activate this power.
Here's the catch that most folks have told me why it cannot be used in this way.
Quote
Capture
An Advanced Sentinel has the Capture ability. If an Advanced Sentinel has a
captive, it can’t use the Multiattack power.
Now for the wording on capture, stick with me folks, I'm almost done.
Quote
CAPTURE (optional) Give this character a power action and make a close combat attack against a single target opposing standard character
Ok, now it looks like an open and shut case right? I've asked this question of our judge and the way I'm about to ask got him to say I don't know. If I declare multiattack to capture and miss the first capture attempt, can I use multiattack to attempt to capture a second target or even reattempt on the first target? The wording for capture state that I cannot use multiattack if I have a captive, but if I miss the first attempt to capture someone, then I do not have a captive and therefore should be able to use the multiattack ability for a second try.

Multiattack
The Capture ability may not be used via the free action granted by Multiattack.
I just read the FF rulebook and it says nowhere that capture cannot be used in concert with multiattack. Multiattack grants two free actions which can be power actions as is stated in my earlier post. Now I have read very carefully the rules on capture in the rulebook and here's an excerpt from them.
Quote
CAPTURE Give this character a power action and make a close
combat attack against a single target opposing standard character;
targets with Phasing or Plasticity modify their defense values by +2
for the attack. If the attack succeeds, it deals no damage. The target
character is captured instead, and is called a captive.
Remove all action tokens from a captive. Remove a captive from
the battlefield until it is rescued (see below). While removed from the
battlefield, a captive can’t be dealt or take damage, and it can’t be
given actions.
If this character has three captives, it can’t capture another
character until at least one of the captives is rescued or released
(see below), and it can’t make close combat attacks.
Now as I said before that once you have captured a fig, multiattack should be gone. However if you miss with that first swipe, you should be able to take a second shot at it.

If the player's guide trumps the rulebook why the hell do we even have a rulebook? I mean its called a rulebook for a reason right? I mean if I had no internet and didn't know there was such a thing as this "players guide" and went to a tourney with this thing, then I would pretty much just be showing up to make an arse of myself.

Although if you want the most recent Player's Guide (which I'd suggest), you'll need to get it at the bottom of this article.

Mistakes happen. We don't live in a perfect world. The Player's Guide contains updates to the rules.

If you're saying that there should be something in the rulebook notifying players that such a thing as the player's guide exists and that it contains updates then you are completely right. (We just had this discussion a little bit ago.) Hopefully the next rulebook will contain such a notification.

The players guide is a reference of all the Rules decisions that have come down because of questions like yours. Not every little quirky detail can fit in a rulebook. If it did it would be just as large as the players guide. Also we only get the rule book once a year. The players guide is updated with every new set.
I understand the frustration with not knowing this was around and that it could effect the way you would play or what you would show up to an event with, but this is not an uncommon thing in the gaming industry. Almost every game has some form of Players Guide or Errata document that is on the internet for official tournament play.
Who is the more foolish? The fool, or the fool who follows him?
