MODOK just became my favorite character. He's hilarious and brutal.
The controls take some getting used to, being an avid Capcom fan and still frequently play MvC2. I found myself accidentally hitting wrong buttons, my brain still half-wired to the old controls and expectations, but I'm sure I'll get over that quickly.
Having not played MvC2 in a while, and having played SSFIV and Tatsunoko vs Capcom for a bit...the controls were pretty familiar to me. That said, I'm still learning.
My main is Hsien-Ko, now that I have her unlocked. I can't get a feel for M.O.D.O.K. just yet, but he is pretty funny to fight. I think I've knocked off his little tiara thing every single time I face him.
I opened it last night and played in arcade for a little and then a dozen or so matches online. The netcode is really pretty amazing; there were times where it felt like 0 lag, but there were other times where lag definitely crept in. I pretty much suck, but I played against other beginners and was about 50/50.
My first impression: I didn't bother to read the instruction manual at first, thinking I could figure it out as I went along. But I was horribly confused, as I kept going, "I thought that was a punch button, but it did a kick?" or "I thought that was a kick button, but it did a punch?" Eventually, I read the instructions and learned about the new button configuration. Not in love with it, but it's okay.
And in my first game, I was playing with Phoenix and some others, when Phoenix gets KO-ed. And I was all like WTF? She just turned into Dark Phoenix? And gets completely healed? And her moves are way more powerful now?
(Of course, you have to have level 5 super available, but still...)
I am still not sure what is a punch and what is a kick button...I was going to play online last night for the first time but friends came on wanting to play Blops. So far though I am enjoying it, though I want Jill so I can finish off my RE team!
I've enjoyed this game more than I expected. Right now She-Hulk and Felicia are my favorite. If anybody want to play a nice friendly game with me on the Xbox 360 my gamertag is solano323. I'm usually on at night.
I was a big fan of MvsC2 and this update sports a few changes from what I'm used to. That being said, I think I'm sold on the new method of play. It is more accessible to people who aren't familiar with the game and it lets some of the players that aren't big on practice become decent enough with more than simply spamming fireballs (or what have you).

Actually, if my experience with the (alleged) three-year old who spent the first 45 seconds of our match last night mashing Down+Heavy with Sentinel, even the fireballs are a little too complicated with this new set up.
i wasnt much for MvC2. when i finally was able to play it on a normal basis most of my friends had been playing for years therefore i got destroyed.... I played TvC like mad so when this game came out it felt natural to me!
Wesker, Morrigan, and Phoenix FTW!!
any one else having trouble with the fricken missions?! Sheesh! those last three to four are super long!
I love RexVulpa!

I think the Capcom character selection is a little lackluster or weird. I mean, apart from the characters from fighting games (who definitely belong in MvC3), the rest of the characters are, well, a bunch of big-headed "little people" (I want to say macrocephalic m-words, but m-word is offensive) and a bunch of ordinary looking people in ordinary clothes. Oh, and a dog. I wasn't too pleased with those character choices, even if I'm starting to warm up to some of the ordinary looking people (Trish, Dante, and maybe Chris), but one of them (Spencer) I find really boring. I really miss Cammy and would like more fighting game characters to be present.
I like the Marvel character selection a bit better even if one of my favorites from past games (Spiral) isn't present. I wanted to like Phoenix, but she just takes *so* much damage, that she's almost unplayable (at least by me). I also really wanted to like some of the villains like MODOK or Dormammu, but they just don't seem to fit me very well. I have been enjoying playing with Super Skrull, though. I just wish he had a projectile.
I wish the game would move away from being all about combos, but that's obviously not going to happen. It's really boring and frustrating when you have to stop and wait five minutes for your opponent to finish unleashing their impressive combo on you.
(But it is fun to do it to somebody else.)
But I am enjoying my current team of Trish/Sentinel/Morrigan. Two seductive demon-women and their mechanical toy. But I don't like Morrigan's projectile super anymore; it has too long of a startup to be useful.
The only characters I haven't warmed up to at all are Spencer, Wesker, and maybe X-23.
And, yeah, some of those missions are pretty hard.

You can combo into morrigans finishing shower. it takes a bit of practice but it can be done.
TBH I wished the marvel side had more females. MODOK? really? mabye im just not a big fan.
and yes Phoenix has a glass jaw. but shes KILLER if used properly!
