Ooh. Looks I'll have the first thread on this forum. That's cool.
STORM WATCH: TEAM ACHILLES
I just got caught up on the last four issues of this book. Wow! If this book gets any more hard core, I'll have to remember not to eat while reading it.
What's cool though, is they are just being realistic about the violent situations. I don't feel this book ties to shock me like Preacher. Just honest about the work these guys are involved in.
For anyone not reading this book yet, it is about a UN tactical unit of normals, who take out post human (Wildstorm term for metas) terrorists and villains. It's kind of the reverse of the original premise. They are led by Roberto Santini, a soldier wounded in an early conflict with The Wildcats.
This is good stuff. Right at the list of top quality books like Ruse, Planetary, and Wildcats itself. Check it out.
Do you know what happened to the original members of Stormwatch? I stopped reading comics altogether early on in the Stormwatch run. Trying to get the old back issues. Have been hesitant on getting the new series until I know what happened to the old team.

Everywhere you look, there's a freaking Monkey doing his business!
Warren Ellis killed them all off in the WildCATS/Aliens crossover. The end of both series of Stormwatch are conveniently collected together for us in trades. And these are really great reads. Nothing like seeing Aliens infest the Stormwatch space station.
Ellis did away with most of the characters he did not personally create, with the exception of Swift.
I would just like to say that except for a six issue bad dream just before Ells' run, that Storm Watch was always an awesome book. It was always somehow overlooked, but Ron Marz did great writing on it.
I mostly love the idea (in both versions) of a governmental force that are not corrupt, or bad guys. That seems to be an original concept these days.
Battalion and Synergy went on to The Monarchy (good book with no support as was The Establishment).
The only thing I regret from Ellis' run (he's my favorite writer) was the death of Winter and Fuji. Both of these characters had tons of potential.
I truly detested the recent Authority special that made Winter a bad guy. It was a dessecration of everything the character was about.
Another cool thing in the new ST series is the return of Flint. A truly original character personality wise.
