I don't know why the theme team rules confuse the heck out of me, but they do. If I'm playing a 500pt game with a generic keyword, such as ruler, how many characters do I need on my team?
You would need to meet the requirements of a 600 pt. game.
4 for named and 6 for generic.
Theme team probs would be:
4 for named and 2 for generic

I run a league and a rule was brought up that I have never heard before about team prob. control. If I used a free action such as outwit, can I still use a team prob.?

As long as the outwit is not a non-free action.

Yes, you can., Note that this is a change from the previous rulebook. Under the 2010 rulebook, any action, including free actions, would prevent the use of themed team pc. With the 2011 rules, it's only non-free actions that stop you from using it.

When will Wizkids change the name of non-free actions to tokenable actions, or some other less confusing term.
It was very similar to the terms Generic and Non-Generic keywords. I was VERY happy that they changed to Generic and Named. It's about time they stopped using Non-Free Action. Why are we defining something by telling the players what it isn't?

Now that's an interesting point, if a bit off-topic. Perhaps a thread about nomenclature that is confusing or ambiguous, with suggestions for improvement, could be useful. I generally fall into the camp of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it," but if there are a significant number of people that find certain terms confusing, maybe it would be worth Wizkids taking a look at for the next edition of the rules.
