Can Abin Sur use his trait on Weapon X, while weapon X is in the tank. ( i did have another friendly on the map, Cypher)

I have a question regarding GF Abin Sur and Weapon X combo. I played a friend this weekend and tried to pull this off but my friend said I couldn't because he said weapon X can't be targeted, which is correct, but Abin Sur dosnt target with his trait, he chooses.

Abin Sur trait:
PASSING THE POWER: When Abin Sur is KO'd, choose a friendly character that's 150 points or less. For the rest of the game, modify that character's attack and defense values by +1.

Weapon X trait:
BREAKING OUT OF THE TANK: Tank is Attached, Weapon X can't be moved, placed, targeted, assigned an action, or damaged and at the begining of your turn, turn this dial once to the right. As long as the Fluid Tank is attached, any opposing character occupuing an adjacent square may be given a power action to turn the dial once to the left. When Click #5 is revealed, remove the Fluid Tank. At the beginning of your turn, if you control no other friendly characters, click Weapon X to click #5 and remove the Fluid Tank.

Nevermind, I totally was not paying attention

Choosing is not the same as targeting.
