Getting back to the thread-starter, I have to wonder what per-booster rate you bought the 40 boosters at? Considering that one can get a case, including shipping (here in the US) for around $213-$225, and having looked around at what loose boosters usually sell for... I can't help but wonder if you're paying more for those 40 than you would have for a case of 48.
This was the first thing that came to mind when I read your post, and at first I let it pass because it was probably too late for you to change your mind... but my curiosity's gotten the better of my civility.
Well I'm splitting with my girlfriend and a really good mate. None of us ever enter tournaments, and we more or less only play with each other. So arguements are unlikely.
But -sensibly- we have come up with a system.
Each of us take 16 boosters. All figures are put on our own pile. All uniques -the major arguement point- will be kept by the people who get them until all boosters have been emptied. Then anyone who has pulled more than 3 uniques must pick their favourite 3. Then the left-overs will be shared between the other 2. The person that pulled the least uniques gets 2 - the others both get 3.
For non's we will trade to try and ensure that everyone has at least one of every sculpt. The spares will be traded to make that happen.
Not a perfect system - I don't think any case splitting technique is. But should work out fine when we trust each other.
As for the cost - it's a basic system that seems to be put a £ sign on the front instead of a $ sign.
Strange - of course we do have 17.5% tax which doesn't help. But even if we didn't I doubt it would be any different. It happens for consoles, games, books. More or less everything. One of those things about living in Britain.

It sounds like a good system, especially as it attempts to balance out gross inequities of chance. Good move. I've just heard too many bitter tales from people who'd felt they'd been... abused, shall we say, by ersatz friends. Nearly all of the problems could have been averted by having a system in place.

Oh, I knew where you were, which was why I mentioned the VAT. I kept it in $ because I haven't bothered seriously looking at the exchange rate since I was over your way in 1983.
I didn't preorder a case cause I don't need to. My luck was so incredible with Cosmic Justice.
Put it this way. I bought 10 packs of CJ and 4 of those had uniques. There are 8 uniques in a case.
When you put two and two together you realize that thats pretty good luck.
So what I am going to do is go to my local heroclix deal and get 20 packs on that predicted beautiful wednesday and hope for hm...I dunno....3 Silver Surfers?!
Good luck, George! I've had my luck swing both ways on sets. Some uniques took me a long time to pin down, while others kept falling into my hands.
Hopefully you get some sort of discount. Were I to buy 20 boosters at retail here in PA, that would be just over $126. For a little less than that, including shipping, I could get 25 boosters sent to me. How significant that 20 clix difference is to you is something only you can say, and (providing your local source gets enough to sell you that many on opening day) you could consider the extra cost a minor fee for having them sooner and helping to support a local business.
As for luck - I've been rockin' with Indy. 6 packs, 2 Uniques. Lots of UK exclusives -before you ask they've been traded for a NightCrawler with some cash and Judge Death.
But I can't rely on luck - generally been awful in the past. A case is the way to go.
My luck with Indy - the 3boosters I bought locally (I'm still waiting for my starter and 8 boosters, ordered back in June; the usually reliable source hadn't gotten his shipment as of Friday) - has been pretty good too.
While I didn't get any Hellboys or Rasputins, I did pull two uniques: Judge Anderson and Cyblade. The latter wasn't on my list of targets, but 2 uniques in 3 boosters... how can I complain? I pulled a vet Lobster Johnson, too, among some other potentially useful pieces such as Johnny Alpha, The Darkness and Witchblade.
I'm right with you on buying a case, of course. I simply am not sufficiently interested in the Indy selection to go that route with this set. The Marvel and DC ones, though, I've been getting my orders in early.
I'm still debating with myself over whether or not to get a case of Critical Mass....I really want one, but I don't know if I can afford it.
I can preorder one from a local retailer for $248 (including tax) and have it on opening day.
I tend to have absolutely terrible luck with boosters, so cases are a must when I byy a set...I tend to pull 2 copies each of one of the best and one of the worst in each set when I get a case. (green gloves Batman, Parasite, Savage Hulk, Brother Blood, Despero I all got two copies each)
Originally posted by RevOnline Beat this though. Buying a case for me is cheaper to order from America ($199) and then pay postage ($41) than to buy it over here. With free postage.
Yeah, but then you don't get those UK exclusives that everyone wants!
