The epic actions are what makes the LOTR "broken" so if you're looking for cheese, abuse those. The other day I played a game with an Xmen theme against a bunch of support, Ultron, and Aragorn. It really sucked to have Ultron take shots at me on Mars and then L/C using Aragorn and just hop away where he could take more shots at me.
If you're using Zenhatten, Frodo giving him Willpower would be great. Gimli giving Zenhatten and Metron a base 20 defense is what I'd do.
If you can use horde tokens, due to their respawning ability, they can be difficult to deal with.
All in all, definitely save LOTR for last and pick the epic action that will benefit you the most.
If I wanted to make a ridiculously-over-the-top team using 1 "broken" figure from each "genre" of HeroClix, what would you recommend? Marvel, DC and Trek, I think I've got down, but the others, I'm not sure.
Marvel - Bencrawler
DCU - Metron
Watchmen - Dr. Manhattan
Gears of War - General RAAM
Star Trek- USS Montgolfier
The question marks for me are Indy, Street Fighter, LOTR, and especially HALO.
It's not that I really consider any of these pieces "broken" in and of themselves, especially Metron and the Montgolfier, but they're ones that everyone talks and/or complains about.
What are the "broken" / "insanely good" pieces from the genres I'm missing?
Part of the problem is that it isn't super clear what your asking. If your looking for "broken" peices then just use the search function, this thread has been done time and time again.
I think the initial reaction was to respond to a 300 point meta format cheese-team. As that is what is on alot of our minds at the moment due to IG month 3.
If that is the case (to prove your point...?) then I would rock Shazam and a few Jason Bloods. That should prove your point just fine. Or on the opposite token, Metron and Kid Zoom. Take your pick.

I don't even think Zenhattan is worth his points. (
Not to de-rail the thread, but have you ever done the math on hitting Zenhattan?
To hit a 19 (from range/hindering) with Prob/SS/Imperv is tough. When he gets on his 'Super' Imperv clicks, a 10 attack has like a 5% chance of hitting him. He is incredible. Pop the Gauntlet and whoa-mama. I think I might actually play that for Month 3 (300 Modern).
