But because you can't write notes down, and there is no difference in color when people just turn the dice to the number of action tokens, it's very hard to keep track of my opponent's actions.
Why can't you take notes? I don't know of a single competative player that doesn't take notes on his opponents in any type of game.
I love Poker chips because they stack neatly under the figure. Beads, change, etc. can get confusing. because the need to get moved around to accommodate other pieces and in the case of change, it's not immediately apparent which side they're on, sometimes.
This. Poker chips > all.

The only issue I've encountered with poker chips is the not-minor schism over whether or not the most recent turn's chip goes on the bottom or top (the former is correct ).
But not this. Most recent turn goes on top, clearly.

i dont know how much poker chips cost but you can buy these little things called life counter. they are small colored glass beads that come in tubes of about 25 each. they are sold for about 1.50 at hobby shops so you can probably find and buy 2 different colors for around 3 dollars (give or take) i suggest blue and red. blue for 1 action, red for 2 action tokens or pushed. thats what i would do for a situation like that. although i tend to avoid large point games like that lol but i hope that suits your needs. i use them because it makes me feel fancy
