When using Mole Man's SP Mind Control:

MOLE MAN'S MONSTERS: Mole Man can use Mind Control only to target characters with the Monster keyword, including friendly ones. When using this Mind Control, Mole Man is not dealt unavoidable damage and modifies his attack value by +3.

As a ranged attack targeting friendly Monsters, if the target has ES/D, does it bump up their defense? By looking at the PAC, I would assume so, but is there a rule for friendly attacks?

ESD is not optional, so they will get the +2 to defense.

Mind Control can be used as a close combat attack so that would get around the ES/D if you're close enough to the target.
