So I just discovered the library has these beauties so I've picked up a few so far to expand my knowledge.
Sadly I've also picked up quite a few duds.
So far, all star Batman and Robin dud. I don't see Batman EVER smacking around his ward protege etc etc so violently. I felt like I needed to call the authorities to report Bruce Wayne. And really what's with him laughing more like the Joker than the Joker himself?? Total let down.
The Return of Bruce Wayne - yippee I got to find out how Omega Batman got created, otherwise snnnnnooooooorrrrrreeeee.
Blackest night - there were two of these and I started them but just didn't want to waste my time. It was just blah so I took them back.
I did get to read a death in the family which was quite interesting. I tried looking for Speeding Bulllets but no luck.
I seem to be missing one from my first batch of Five that I picked up.. So it must have been an okay read but not great..
YMMV, but the "Batman" collections I've enjoyed most from the local library have been the Grant Morrison written ones. I'm not a huge fan of the Batman family of titles, so I don't feel like I have any special insight.
FWIW, I also checked out the Return of Bruce Wayne but returned it without finishing it!
Based on your reaction to Blackest Night, I would hesitate before picking up anything by Geoff Johns after the "Sinestro War" arcs of Green Lantern. Maybe you should try something outside of DC?
What dude.... All Star Batman and Robin is like my favorite Batman book. It shows just how bat#### insane Batman really is. My favorite scenes are him just laughing as he runs and jumps across rooftops.
But I gotta say as far as 'in continuity' stories go, I was in love with Morison's Batman and Robin. I only read up til around issues 16 or so, but it was an amazing ride
If they have any Spiderman books, check those out. Spiderman has been outstanding the past 2 or 3 years.
If you haven't read it and your library has them (mine does), check out James Robinson's Starman. That's the best series I've ever read.
Also, although not a 'superhero' book, Lucifer is a great read, as is Fear Agent and Strange Girl. Hellboy is always fun too.
