I know at one point the 3D Objects were considered optional (if both players agreed to use them) but somewhere along the lines (map pack releases?) I thought the option was reversed. Is this true? What's the current ruling on these?

Official or not, I was also curious as to how many of your venues use the 3D Objects with the additional item property value/rules vs using them for 3D eye candy.

At my venue, 3D objects are still optional.

According to the new faq objects and figure tokens no longer require consent from your opponent.

Any time I've seen them used, it's been with the rules.

They don't make great eye candy, anyway. If you want hulk to swing around a dumpster, how come it's barely bigger than he is. A dumpster should be covering at least 4 squares, if not 6. (Try to walk through a 1 square passageway inside a house carrying a dumpster with a 4 square footprint.) As they are, they are just extrusions of the 2-square car mentality from the maps.

Either player has the option to use them after objects are taken from the 'pool'. The judge has 2 sets of the indoor and outdoor objects to pick from.
