The comma separates the statement correctly. If i said:

"You may choose to eat an ice cream cone, immediately after which you get in your car."

It doesn't matter if you ate the cone or not, you're getting into your car.

You may choose to give a child an ice cream, after which the child will be happy.

So the child will be happy because I have the opportunity to give an ice cream, right?

@gregthomas77: once again, if your point here is "this doesn't clearly express the intent" then I would agree and I think others would as well. But there is no question of the intent, no doubt as to how it works. MC has really only had two significant changes since the game began: the action given to the target became a free action about 10 years ago, and the activation of MC was changed from a power action to a combat action in the newest PAC.

I enjoy the discussion and the point is to examine the rule and its wording. I hope no one is taking offense at any of this, I am not trying to be confrontational, I just haven't heard a good explanation other than that is not the intent (which of course is a sufficient, if not satisfactory, answer).

Right

Since you wrote that they will be happy after you make that choice, then yes they should be happy. Apparently, they must be a child that will be happy no matter what you choose.

If you think they will only be happy if you choose to given them an ice cream, you would need to write, "You may choose to give a child an ice cream, after which the child will be happy only if you gave them an ice cream."

OK, I'll take it. Apparently I should have paid more attention to those lessons about comma usage.
