1. does the quipping a character effect about automatically passing the roll for equipping a hammer. work with both the action of placing a hammer from the book effect in a friendly square, and by using a character to power action a hammer into a friendly square?. Basically getting to automatic pick up 2 hammers a turn?
2. The Empowered by the Serpent effect. Says The other slots show a power that the chosen character can use. Can I use all 3 powers shown, or only 1?
1.yes, but you have to pay a power action to equip the hammers.
2. You may need to elaborate further, but i would say you can use all the powers that are shown. However if your character already posses's the power it doesn't get to use it twice a turn or anything. I believe though, if it it grants you, say invunerability, and your character already poseses's that power, if it is outwitted you still have that power through the book.
1. 1st hammer drops for free, power action to pick it up. 2nd hammer drops if you givea friendly figure a power action, power action to pick it up. Usually, from your second turn on you can drop two hammers a turn.
2. Yes, as long as you have the correct number of hammers assigned to the book at the beginning of the game, and obviously you can only use one power that requires a non free action.

I thought that when you equipped the hammers a character could use a power action to pick up a hammer as long as it was 5 squares away from a starting area. Another character could be given an action to throw a hammer in another friendly characters square thats 5 squares away from the starting area. Then that character could use quake as free action and then had to roll to see if they pick up that hammer or do they not have to roll but get to just pick up the hammer.

THE BOOK OF THE SKULL
Equipping a Character: At the beginning of each of your turns, you may remove a Hammer from the Book of the Skull and place it in the square of a friendly character that is at least 5 squares from any starting area. Also, once per turn you may give a character a power action and remove a Hammer from The Book of the Skull and place it in a friendly character’s square that is at least 5 squares from any starting area. Whenever a Hammer is placed in a character’s square, that character may immediately use Quake as a free action. If the friendly character is given a power action to place that Hammer on its character card this turn, the roll automatically succeeds and the Hammer is considered ―equipped‖ to that character and that character can use its abilities as listed on the Hammer’s card. Unless specified otherwise, a character may only be equipped with one Hammer. If the friendly character does not place the relic on its card this turn, then for the remainder of the game, it is a relic as described on its card.
Simpskin40 as the instructions on the card states: If the friendly character is given a power action to place that Hammer on its character card this turn, the roll automatically succeeds and the Hammer is considered ―equipped.
So when when using the book, you have the option of giving the friendly character who is getting a hammer a power action to equip the hammer (by roll that automatically succeeds) within the same turn the hammer was dropped or you could what till next turn to equip the hammer by normal relic rules.
