Official List of figs who can shut down/negate Power Cosmic/Quintessence Team Ability
Hello, I've recognized that there is a lot of flip-flopping regarding which characters are able to outwit/negate/counter the Power Cosmic/Quintessence Team Ability (just check the units section).
I'd love to have an orange settle this once and for all. Maybe we can sticky this thread, update the list as needed, and people can refer to it whenever they need to?
Here's what I've got:
GG Adam Warlock 032
AvX Scarlet Witch 006
WXM Cyclops 016
WXM Forge 033
BM Roy Raymond Jr 026 (official ruling needed)
DKR John Blake 206 (official ruling needed)
BM Utlilty Belt
AC Dirk Anger 047
I may be missing some. Please add to it. Can I please get a ruling on Roy and Blake? Thanks.

Do you like DC comics from the 1980s? So do I. Check out: www.dcinthe80s.com.
Utility Belt Resource increases that list to every figure that can be assigned a resource!

It's generally a bad idea to try and gather information on such things from the units.
There really is no flip-flopping on these things. All instances are pretty clear cut.

Lists like these are also a bad idea. More common are attempts to do compatibility lists, but the same reasons apply here.
The bottom line is that it is better to learn why things affect the Power Cosmic TA (or why they don't).
This one is a pretty simple one to understand.
Quote
POWER COSMIC
Characters using the Power Cosmic team ability can use Willpower and their powers can’t be countered. Uncopyable.
There are two main things to concern yourself with here.
1) Powers
2) Counter
Powers are a very simple concept. They are the things which are displayed in the combat dial. They are described on the PAC for the standard powers. Special powers are described on individual cards.
Counter is another very simple concept. If an effect counters something, then it will ALWAYS use the word "counter" to denote this. If it doesn't use that word and instead says "can't use" or "ignore" or something else, then it is not countering.
If an effect is not countering a power, then it will affect a PC/Q figure.
Helluva Detective: Roy Raymond, Jr. can use Outwit. He can use it normally or he can counter a team ability as if it were a power. When he does, all opposing characters that possess the chosen team ability have that team ability countered.
For the purpose of his power, the TA is a Power. Since the TA is a power and his effect would counter it, then he cannot use it on a PC/Q guy.
The same applies to John Blake:
Quote
Working Both Sides: John Blake can use Outwit, but can only counter team abilities as if they were powers.
POWER COSMIC

These both say they can use Outwit to counter a team ability as if it were a power. Power Cosmic says the figure's powers can't be countered, so no to both.
If you use some search-fu you can find previous threads verifying this.

Also, Roy and Blake have been ruled on multiple times. Not that they really needed it, but they do NOT WORK. Why? Because they counter Team Abilities as if they were POWERS. And you cannot counter Powers on PC/Q Team Members.
aqhoffman- greatest post possibly ever
jtallday- Jon I wouldn't challenge you if I wasn't sure you are wrong cuz I don't have that kind of energy.

I hear what you're saying, and here's my counter-point:
Someone recently wrote this in the Units section for Roy Raymond Jr.

Is Roy Raymond, Jr. better than John Blake? ---That depends on what kind of team your opponent is running. Is your opponent running a high point Power Cosmic/Quintessence figure? If so then John Blake is your man. Is your opponent running a team full of Mystics/Batman Ally/Avengers Initiative/Superman Ally/S.H.I.E.L.D./Hydra/etc.. then Roy Raymond can shut them down. As with any other figure comparison, it really boils down to what your opposition brings to the table.
PLEASE believe me when I say that I am not attacking anyone. We can all get along easily and still disagree. But this is Exhibit A why one should never view Realms as official on anything. John Blake, like Roy Raymond, also says "as if they were powers". Sooo....John Blake isn't quite your man. The phrase "as if they were powers" is present only to allow Outwit to function on TA's at all. Outwit is specific in that it counters powers, so we have to temporarily treat a TA as a power to make it a legal choice. They are NOT powers, nor do we 'consider' them powers, however. This would require verbiage like Water Terrain, which tells us to 'consider' it as Hindering Terrain for movement purposes. We can thank the Chicken Little pocket of Clix players who screamed blue murder when Origin put out the Dissent Feat, which said that we can "choose to counter a Team Ability" without the "as if" phrasing. Rules lawyers cried, "That's impossible! Outwit only works on powers. So this is a useless feat." Since then, characters like these have included the "as if" phrasing to allow a TA choice. In short: Roy and John can both, indeed, Outwit PC/Quint. *Official Realms ruling* |-) b "
Please note the last sentence: Since then, characters like these have included the "as if" phrasing to allow a TA choice. In short: Roy and John can both, indeed, Outwit PC/Quint. *Official Realms ruling*. Previously I thought that John Blake or Roy Raymond Jr *could not* outwit PowerCos/Quint, but this guy throws out that they can, and that it's an official ruling.
Do you see where I'm coming from? This totally confused me.

The same applies to John Blake:

this is why quoting powers is always helpful!

Comments in the Units section can be misleading. Always best to check the Rules Thread, Players posting here give more accurate answers and are looking to help others.
