Any advice for abilities or specific clix to focus on when building a team to go against Ziran the Tester running at full? My point total is to be flexible (as we are teaming up for a Colossal Challenge event) 425-800. A few characters that come to mind for me is AvX Scarlet Witch to remove his power cosmic, and Sentry and Void.....(has to be modern)
Thanks for any advice!
Is your priority to simply weather the proverbial storm of the testing phase, then go in guns blazing; or do you hope to actually PASS all the tests and come out smelling like roses, then attack? The answer to those questions will certainly help to set up an opposing force.
I tend to be a "go in guns blazing" type guy. I tend to gravitate towards characters to are indomitable for this reason....love getting two actions before clearing. lol. Im guessing outwit, perplex, penetrating damage are all gonna be important against him?
Unless you can get rid of Power Cosmic the Outwit won't do you any good. And if you can't pass the tests he's going to nuke your Scarlet Witch. I have a list at home of the cheapest figs to pass his tests ~250 points(and still do other stuff), I'll post it in a bit.
90% of rules questions are answered by RTFC. Most of the rest are answered by a proper grasp of English and common goddamn sense.

^This sounds like the winning strategy. I would encourage you to build a team which passes the tests, then add your bruiser(s) to that setup.
Have a team that wins map roll, and pick bizarro world.
Assuming you don't do something horrendously stupid, and play carefully, pretty much any team should be able to just eat the 6 damage and then crush his face in over time.
You can guarantee that he won't attack a significant portion of your team (because he cannot move to a place with LoF) that you keep in your starting area, and you can just make sure that when you are going after him for damage, that it is with figures who can 'hit and run' (HSS is the easiest way) and hide in squares he simply cannot target.
For golden-age, you want to go monsters, because you can get a guaranteed map-win theme team for super-cheap (60 pts for 10 rookie moloid, having a net +10 to map roll means you automatically win), and then you have 540 points to spend on whatever aggressive monsters you will want.
The 'next best' bet imho is probably mystical. 10 astrals runs you only 130 pts, and even with only 470 points left, there are a TON of sick mystical characters who can do what you need done (namely, have hypersonic speed).
I wouldn't even worry about Outwitting his Power Cosmic, especially if "guns blazing" is your MO. Just make sure you've got lots of Penetrating damage at your disposal (PB, Pulse Wave, other special powers). Stealth and Mystics TA would be beneficial as well.
As for passing the test, start with the team you WANT to play and see how it will do against the test as is, then tweak accordingly. When you adjust, try to find pieces that satisfy multiple tests at the same time (e.g. Glen Talbot is under 50 points, a unique, has Enhancement, and adds a TA to your force, so that's 4 helpful things in one piece).
My H/W link does not reflect the wants for my collection, it is a list of figures that I already have, but still "want" to play.
