Okay so I thought I understood Split and Merge pretty well.

As I understand it, You can use two higher point characters to merge into a Duo. Then either Split back out into that pair or split into to characters that fit but are the less than or equal to the lower than the value of the duo itself.

My local judge has said that the new rules if I use higher value I can in fact split into different characters that are a higher value as long as they have the proper names.

Example he was using was as follows:

Captain America and Black Widow:

He has AvX cap at 100 and Black Widow at 114
He says he can Merge into Cap and Widow Duo (true)
Then he said he can split into Cap from CAtWS (125) and back to Widow for 114.

That feels incorrect because i'm bringing back more points then left the field to begin with?

There is absolutely nothing in the rules to support that. I have no idea where he would have gotten that.

Neither do I. I do know i could do something like this:

AvX Iron Man at 150
IIM War Machine 125

Merge into IIM #043 Iron Man and War Machine

Then Split into say
IIM Silver Centurion 161 points
and IM3 #102 Iron Patriot 100
