Hey all. Would it be legal Can Professor X and Magneto WXM053's Origin of the Split power to include Brotherhood keyworded pieces into an AvX tournament?
(THE ORIGIN OF THE SPLIT: During your first turn and for the rest of the game, other friendly characters that possess either the Brotherhood of Mutants or X-Men keyword or team ability also possess the Brotherhood of Mutants and X-Men keywords and team abilities.)
Here's the copy from the tournament invite. I'm pretty sure it's standard.
...Prior to this event all players must declare they are either fighting for the Avengers or the X-Men. Your force must contain AT LEAST 1 figure from your AvX Starter set (depending on your allegiance).
Build a 600 point modern age team using at least 1 figure from your starter. LE AvX figures you have received during other AvX events may be considered as part of your starter. All Figures must have either the X-Men or Avengers keyword depending on your allegiance...
I'm waiting to hear back from him. There are a lot more sets with Avengers in the modern era because of all of the movie sets I thought Prof & Mag would open up some extra options.
It it requires them to have the keyword during force construction, then no, it wouldn't work. "During your first turn" takes place way after force build and the in-between step of "when [or as] you reveal your force."

I explored this very same angle. However, quality is with the X-Men (not that Avengers don't have quality as well, but the X-Men do not suffer for their lower numbers), and if the shop plays with a highlander rule that eliminates a LOT of the duplicate main characters on the Avengers side.
We ended up deciding that it would not work after discussing it.
That's one of the reasons I don't like WizKids Suggested Formats anymore. They don't clarify anything, so it's all up to the Judges and they tend to leave holes big enough for a Mack Truck to drive through. At least when I make my own format I know my intent. With them, I have no clue.

Hmmm... I would be interested to see a National Breakdown of success on each side. Personally I think the Avenger's have it all over the X-Men, and it isn't even close. Avenger's have the 2 best Beatsticks in the GAME with Hyperion Prime and Sentry/Void. They also have the best Stealth mechanism not named Black Light Ring in Sharon Carter. And of course they have the best Support piece Donald Blake, and support pieces in the SWItches. The only things I think X-Men have to compete are the Team Bases and the fact that most people don't own either Sentry/Void or Hyperion Prime (and maybe not CWFF Switch either).
aqhoffman- greatest post possibly ever
jtallday- Jon I wouldn't challenge you if I wasn't sure you are wrong cuz I don't have that kind of energy.
You get 5 figures sealed (a booster or five singles) and you can use those and up to a certain amount of points from your faction starter and participation prizes, to include the Phoenix Force.
It's a much more balanced format. The X-Men starter does have generally better figures, but I can get over that because its more generally equal.
EDIT: To be on topic though, it happens during your first turn, which is after the game's begun. So it wouldn't give you any sort of theme benefit.
