REPLACED IT WITH A BROKEN FORGERY: When an opposing character with a relic or resource assigned to them makes an attack, that player rolls a d6 that can't be rerolled after actions resolve. On a result of 1-2, that player chooses one: remove the assigned relic from the game or remove an item attached to that resource from that game.
So your opponent attacks with a character and fails the roll its your opponent chooses either to remove the assigned relic or remove and item attached to that resource. This brings me to the question.
If you have one and you get that 1-2 can you choose the option that doesn't hurt you?
Example: Say I attack with a character with a Utility Belt against a team with Cat on it. I roll for the trait and roll 1-2. Can I choose remove the assigned relic from the game which means I remove nothing since I don't have a relic or do I have to choose to remove the belt?
I get this trait is worded for teams that use resources that give assigned characters relics but I just want to know what happens with this wording on teams that only have a relic or resource. Sorry if this ends up being a dumb question answered in the rulebook or something but I don't have those things remembered word for word so I might be forgetting about something.
using your scenario let's say we had 2 handcuffs attached to our belt, and earlier in the game we dropped one of them for a 2nd fig to pick up and use, which he did...now Belt Fig attacks hits damage, yay, fail the Cat roll now we have to take one of remaining items off the belt which for our purposes will be the other handcuff and now it's out of the game, then we attack with the Figure who picked up our dropped handcuff, after that action resolves we fail our cat roll again, damn prime, and the relic handcuff is removed from game
Sorry to bring this Up again, But I just want to make sure I Understood and add another question to this.
I have a Cat and my Opponent is using Phoenix Force. no frags on the base and one on each of five chars. one of them attacks and miss the roll. As I understood, he can't chose to remove an relic from the Phoenix force because it Would be Illegal, so when he removes the phoenix fragment from the the character. can he still use the phoenix abilities?

Correct.

The character could still use any effects that apply to him/her being assigned the Resource, but would not be able to use any effects that apply to being assigned a fragment.
Hope that helps.

What if I have the Book of Skrulls allocated to my team. However, I didn't drop or pick up any hammers. When my characters attack the opposing players Cat, am I forced to roll? If I am and fail, I'm assuming that would mean that a hammer needs to be removed from the Book?

1. Yes, because while you may not have equipped any hammers yet, your entire force is assigned the Book of Skull.
2. Yes, because his ability says that if you roll a 1 or 2, you must either remove an assigned relic or remove an item attached to the resource. Since you have no hammers equipped, you must choose the second option because that is the only legal option.
Don't believe in yourself, believe in me who believes in you! Set your sights for the sun!
