Recently I finally received my mdm:avx starter and decided to see if my daughters wanted to play. One of them said no but she's only 7 so that's probably a good thing. One of the other 2 said yes and I haven't asked the third one yet cause she was with her mother.
The one who said yes is 11 and she caught on to it really quickly, so I decided I would ask her if she wanted to play against some people other then just me, she said sure, so we went to a local store to play in the month 1 op.
On the way there I told her to make sure she was polite and always shake hands before the game and say good luck and shake hands after and say good game no matter win or lose.
My biggest worry about the trip and the tourney was that she would be taken advantage of due to her age and how inexperienced she is with a tournament environment, but I was glad to find I was very wrong. In fact she was not only treated very well but she also came in third behind me, I went 2-1 my one lose being to my daughter first round and another player who went 3-0, the judge also sat by her and helped her out when she had questions which she didn't have many of. All in all she had a real good time and is already looking forward to month 2 op and beyond.
I just wanted to post this after reading how some venues are being portrayed negatively, it's nice to go to one that is fair and takes care of their players, especially those just starting out.
I've already introduced the game to both my wife and brother. Neither liked how complicated Heroclix is but so far really enjoy MDM. My wife even asked if I wanted to play that dice game again soon? and that's a good sign.
"Come on Hulk! Where's the old boasting? The battle cries? Why aren't you bellowing about how you're 'the strongest one there is'? Could it be because... you know it's not true?"
"No. Because it's just too obvious."

If there's one benefit to this Starter shortage its the outpouring of communal gaming. At my local venue we've received 4 starters total (2 at launch, 2 more for the restock) so everyone who's wanted to play has needed to share pieces. That's done a lot to foster goodwill amongst players and hopefully it'll stick once people can get their own gear. I'm apprehensive about the future tournament environment but we'll see what happens when everything gets rolling.

THAT IS AWESOME! Your "fathering" guidance along the way, the way the judge supported everyone and her performance! GREAT DAY, DAD!!!
