If I had 2 horde tokens with Sidetep, and one sidestepped to become a stack with the other, could the stack now use Sidestep?
A character may not activate the same game effect
twice in one turn with free actions, unless
the game effect indicates otherwise.
As tokens and stacks merge into a single stack, any game effects with
an ongoing duration (e.g., Perplex, Super Strength, Relics, etc.) that
are affecting the token/stack are now affecting the stack.
So would the "effect" of using Sidestep with the first horde token transfer to the stack, thus preventing the stack from using Sidestep?
Good question! It's not exactly the same figure, but part of it. The only precedence I can think of is team bases... if a figure had PB and was on solo-adventure, they could PB an opponent and then the adjacent team base (also showing PB) could use Working Together to "absorb" them and then PB itself if I'm not mistaken.
Yes, team bases and stacks are different, but this makes me think they could (although I don't know of any Horde token that does)... unless the effect of Sidestep was not from the stack, but the single token coming in (eg. it's assigned a resource/relic that lets them use it). Just my 2 cents.
-Heroclix is not a game of logic, it's a game of strategy .... after all, when's the last time that you saw a giant (using a stealth ability) that was hiding behind a swingset... and nobody could SEE him????
Hey, in case someone was wondering still about this, I emailed the rules team and got this:
The no duplicate free action effect is what would actually be transferred over to the stack. If a single Horde Token were to use Sidestep to merge into the stack, then the stack could not use Sidestep as the stack is now considered to have used Sidestep as a free action already.

Thanks for posting the answer.
