I can't understand the hate for this figure. Not every figure has be the same and this is a new Thanos from a different time than his other figures. Not sure how his damage is low when almost every click is 4 and he gets +1 when attacking his chosen target AND gets to pick a new one when it dies... Also 8 range is pretty good now days, few characters get that anymore and with square running shot it isn't even a problem really. Also his attack values are awesome and he has top dial outwit... Some people are never satisfied.
The hate comes from the fact that the dial is lame for a character of Thanos' stature. He should be feared in any incarnation, but his dial has some overwhelming flaws and not enough goodness to justify spending 300 points on it.
An 8 range is pretty good, until you realize that anyone with Stealth can hop into a bush and be safe from Thanos. Repeat that phrase again until you realize how ridiculous it sounds.
Yes, he has PW to oust hiding characters, but anyone smart will position so that he can't get a single target PW off in the first place.
I do like the strong-as-hell opening defense he has, but it's easy to crack a 19DV in today's game.
He has no Improved Movement or Targeting, which means you can tie him up in his mid-dial to eliminate a serious damage threat. If that tie up piece has Invul or better showing, Thanos is doing 1 damage to him. Repeat that phrase again until you realize how ridiculous it sounds.
He doesn't even fly. You could have 2 cheap Barrier pieces lock him down for the entire game, provided he isn't on Phasing.
Two Blue AIM Beekeepers can potentially lock down Thanos, The Mad Titan, Worshiper of Death for an entire match. Repeat that phrase again...you get my point.
The dial sucks. No question about it. It's a shame, cause it's freaking Thanos, and also cause some of the recent 300 point OMA's we've seen have been designed to take on 300 points worth of opponents much more effectively than this one.
To put what follows in context: the closest I've ever come to a clix incarnation that plays like Thanos (outside of the SN unique with feats back in his day) was the GG SR with Ophidian (for sidestep, PW, and opening outwit) and the Phoenix Force on group 4 (for RS, EE, and +1 damage in addition to flight, poison, mystics and RCE from fragments). Yes, this is a disappointment for Thanos. In the days of split dials we should have access to ridiculously powerful versions and usable point values on the same clix. He also lacks the improved movement and targeting that I want from a grounded Thanos.
Is he a good 300? No. Is he worth playing in high point games for fun? Maybe. It sort of depends on what the rest of the Black Order can do. Hopefully the prime will be a lot more exciting.
Questions, can this Thanos...
-be a part of a force where the Book of Skulls is used? (Just dont assign a hammer to him)
-be a part of a force where the Powerplant is used? (Just dont assign any rings to him)
-be a part of a force where the Power Battery is used? (Since u are assigning a construct)

Book of skull is assigned to all characters, so no.
Power plant as well, for the same reason if I remember correctly.
Power battery probably, as long as he's never assigned a construct.

For Thanos's "CHOOSE - THE GAUNTLET OR THE TRIBUTE," is the damage dealt penetrating/unavoidable? For example, if all my characters under 101 points have toughness will they still take damage anyway?

It doesn't say it's penetrating or unavoidable, so yes. It can be reduced or ignored.
