I like using (E) Black Cat in nearly any army, dice are a large part of the game, and Iron Man can certainly use the help.
(V) Psylocke isn't a bad choice either, if you pull a running shot+Energy explosion with Iron Man, You can have Psylocke tag along and boost the damage.
(R) or (E) Black Panther would also be good, one moves for free, the other shreds anyone that gets close to him, having outwit is a good thing and he's cheap.

sliverbelt's suggestions are good ones - if you have to use E Ironman.
Another thought is to put a cheap TKer on the team - especially R Mandroid armor. That allows you to fling 'ol shellhead out 10 squares and then use running shot. It's great when you're opponent doesn't see it coming, and you charge 12 to 15 squares across the board and smack a figure that they thought was out of reach...
Of course, such a maneuver leave Ironman pretty open to retaliation...
Another good figure to add (to any team, really) would be R Invisible Girl who can share an 18 defense with Ironman.
Finally, a good perplexer couldn't hurt either. I'm fond of all versions of Mystique - stealth for protection along with her perplex, and the V version isn't a horrible secondary ranged attacker. If you're looking for a good one-click beat stick to match up with Ironman, R Doc Samson isn't bad - super strength and one click of perplex.
Good luck.
Cheers.

TEAM BACKGROUND:
During the time period of E Iron Man the Avengers were unfortunately saddled with a government liaison named Henry Peter Gyrich (You kids might remember him from the 1st "X-Men" movie )
Among the bureaucratic indignities the team had to suffer from Gyrich was work release for captured super-criminals:
In this case, the Taskmaster!
He's accompanied by a S.H.I.E.L.D. guard/observer and, due to a O.H.S.A. regs, a medic.
NOTES:
The Dreadnought is a stand-in for Jocasta
To be honest, I've never fielded or played against Iron Man, so I'm just going by the buzz. Namely his AV needs help. So Beast & Tasky can perplex it up, Jocasta can help with ranged attacks, Panther will outwit target's defenses and a SHIELD pump never hurts.
You need perplex!!!!! Iron Man's AV is terrible for his points so you'll want perplex and PC. How about something like this?
400pts
161 e IronMan
66 v Doc Oc
43 e Mystique
51 v Gambit - Although you could change for someone else
29 r Calypso
28 r Mandroid
10 e Paramedic
12 e ConArtist
4 perplexers makes most of your team dangerous. The first thing you'll have to be careful of is oppossing perplexers. After you take out the outwit you should be fairly safe with Ironman.
I have a 400 point Ironman team with Beast and Moondragon, who were both Avengers at the same time. I also use Black Panther. So you can pull this one off.
1) Move Black Panther up and outwit any defensive power on target.
2) Use Beast to Perplex up Ironman's Attack or Damage (depending on target's defense rating
3) Use MoonDragoon to Tk Ironman 10 squares.
4) Running Shot with Ironman for 3 or 4 damage.
That still leavesyou with actions for therest of the team.
