I hate Pulse Wave. I view it as the lazy-player's crutch. I'm really tired of facing team after team of figures using that power. I know about Bizarro, Headpool and Silver Centurion. Are their any other Modern-Age figures that don't have to worry about Pulse Wave?
I agree it seems many people have been combining pulse wave with running shot to break an entire teams glass jaw. Does pulse wave destroy barrier markers?
Pulse Wave can be tactically negotiated. If you're using a single figure, there's usually little you can do except KO the Pulse Waver. If you have multiple, you can form up in a way that makes it impossible for your opponent to Single Target your most valuable figure(s).
-Outwit the Pulse Wave.
-First Lantern can completely negate Pulse Wave by choosing "Yellow."
-Rainbow Raider can reduce the Pulse Waver's stats by choosing "Yellow" and being outside the blast radius, which is fine because Rainbow Raider's effect doesn't stipulate a range.
-GF Ragdoll can gimp the Pulse Waver by being KO'ed by it. His "Hostage" effect can't be ignored because it's a result of him being KO'ed.
-Kyle Rayner (the easy answer to almost everything) takes a Pulse Wave and lands on his "shouldn't exist on any figure ever" click.
-Science Cop Mob. The opponent targeting one of them via Running Shot will take X damage, where X is the number of cops not in the range. If the opponent targets all of them, they can gang up on the Pulse Waver. It's silly, but it works.

Most pulse wave is such short range I feel like a solid range attacker with TK beats a TK+Pulse Wave every time. I always play aggressive against pulse wave. Strike first, strike hard and strike in numbers.
The important thing to remember is that Pulse Wave isn't a strategy, it's only an element of one. Effectively neutralizing Pulse Wave in some manner doesn't stop your opponent from simply using punches and pewpewlazors to take you out.
A defending player usually needs to walk into a Single Target Pulse Wave, or an attacking one usually needs to set it up to make it happen. Pulse Wave is relatively complex and requires skill to both use effectively and negate.
An entertaining example is a match I played earlier this month. My main attacker was Hal Parallax, who starts with Running Shot/Pulse Wave. My opponent boxed his figures together in an alley to try and keep me from single targeting his Weaponer. Through a huge amount of setup, I just barely managed that single target LoF. (It involved a TK, barrier, perplexed speed, running shot, Pulse Wave, all within a 4x8 area to pull off). He was impressed enough that he stopped to shake my hand before I made the attack roll saying he'd never seen something like that before and he never saw it coming. I admitted it took a lot of brainpower to work out. He ended up winning by the skin on his teeth, but it was a spectacular move.

Pulse wave is a part of the game. Learn to fight it or deal with it. I hated pulse wave when I was a noob, (not saying anyone here is) But now ive been playing a few years its probably my favorite power besides shape change.
