I try once to build a somewhat competitive team and I #### it up

Hmmm...easy fix I see to keep what you're trying to do, is use the 116 (ish) point Mon-El from Origins as your Amalgam. Still gives you the base power set that you're looking for, and since Amalgams don't use Stats, it's about all you'd need.
