I was looking at setlist pdf's and was wondering if there's a reason why certain "troop buildable" pieces have a particular number of extra check marks?

I think they are in there to note that it is a generic. There are usually 5 slots for generics in case you are trying to get 5 and only have 3, you can see how many more you need.
