Such squandered potential. I would have been happy with Indom and higher attack, but 10's that even fall to a 9 in a Venom heavy set just doesn't feel good enough to me. So many other figures get starting 11 attack that it's almost the standard, but Eddie is left with 10's unless you can make use of his situational trait. Between that and the Symbiote being so vanilla, just can't get behind fielding this figure that much. Sculpt is unique on figure, but even that leaves something to be desired. Symbiote sculpt is absolutely laughable, though.
Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?”
Putting him on a team meeting the Sinister Six United requirements makes this 75 pt figure truly great. But I agree that without that, his stats are low for a Venom. Still..... gimme gimme.
i have to disagree. his sculpt i really think is cool looking, they finally have some semblance of the old quality paint jobs they used to. his trait isnt situational, it's meant to be used. i had him on a team of 6 for 300pts last night. paired him with president osborn who chose him as his "bodyguard" so not only did he get the +1 to all combat values for having 6 people on my force but he also got an added boost to whatever 2 combat values i chose for both of them. giving venom 12attack, and with so many cheap perplexers now, theres 13attack. If they beefed this Venom up any more he would be more points and not able to fit into a 6 person 300pt team very well.
This is the perfect example of a poorly done "watered down" dial. Nothing about him screams "Venom" to me. In the comics he's more likely to take a hit than dodge/avoid it, yet he has only 6 clicks and no toughness while having SS/SC. He has exploit weakness with his bcf for some reason, when he is far more likely to pick a car up and smash spider-man with it than scratch someone.
If the dial bears no resemblance to the character, what's the point of using the IP at all? This may be a good dial, or even a great dial, but it isn't venom by any means. And I'm flipping sick of the symbiote trait, it should give toughness/plasticity and a vulnerability to penetrating damage like the Spider-Man and Venom LEs. The whole thing reeks of standard WizKids not reading any spider-man comics outside of a few covers and wikipedia
"I remember you said to me once, you said... 'if death ever comes your way and won't let you pass... make sure you scream right back in his face"
I was really excited for a new and lower cost Venom, but I’m not really feeling this dial. Traited toughness would have gone a long way to making it feel more like a super rare. I’ll be sticking with the SFoSM uncommon for now. To me that one just feels like much more of a team player, more like Venom, and more reliable in terms of raw stats. The SSU trait is nice while it lasts, but eventually he’ll lose the +1 stats and then he’s left feeling pretty average compared to some of the other Sinister Syndicate pieces in this set.
I think this Venom is a good (if underwhelming) dial, but ultimately depends on the force it is played with. I opted to play this dial as a sort of deterrent: stake out some hindering terrain (with Stealth courtesy of "S6 United") to encourage opposing forces to go another direction... while this figure has Stealth/Shape Change/Super Senses, it usually won't be the first target. That strategy will tend to leave Venom away from the action, and without something like "Call in Help" or a TAXI, you will end up burning actions to get him into the fight.
Venom is deceptive. Sporting a dial full of 'cheap' powers, he doesn't feel reliable. At the same time, that potential is there- especially if his stats are boosted by a 6-man team. When he's actually on the table with a Syndicate team, he ranks as a lower threat- and it's then that he shines. Venom picks and chooses his targets, always certain he's better off with the melee he's created than they are. Taking a hit puts him in a bad way, for sure- though he still has plenty to offer in the latter half of his dial. I don't know that he's a good choice among Venoms, but in Modern Age, on a Syndicate team, he earns his keep and then some.
