018 nova - man do we need a new nova. it's been a looooong time. her sp is all kinds of sneaky. ps always makes something stick, and if you happened to have reduced any at all, here comes an extra snack sized burn on top. particularly vicious against the increasingly present stop clix. coupled with her rs/rce combo which gives her legit options of stick-n-shoot vs scoot-n-shoot, she seems like a fun dial before you even factor in her consistent offensive stats and that sweet pc ta. the sp is a nice add. I like the poison snuck into the defense and I like the lack of overlap of SPs, a passing of the torch*from offensive focus to defense that also keeps her dial svelte in application. my favorite bit, though, is the spike in her printed dmg where her clix are bare. that's just a fun thing to see on a crisp dial. fire pun 032 firelord - when we inevitably (finally!) get an ff set, i'd love to see the heralds return in force as a subtheme as you've paired them with the ff here. the cosmic rod as a special item is cool, most especially in how you took a standard free equip and made it into a thematic weakness. cool flavor in there, particularly in how the rod mostly just modifies stats, further increasing the integration of the rod and his use of it. the cool thing about that and the sp is that the effects are tame but general, meaning he doesn't gain anything particularly fancy, but everything he does is better. great job
062a destroyer - the lets you know upfront that Asgardian products are built to last. no cheap strikes on the destroyer, you're going to have to peck away to get the job done. it serves to demonstrate there's no chinks in the armor to exploit. it's just built too well and too sturdy. the modified ram ability is great beyond the full move-charge-esque aspect due to the board control. it provides a visual of slamming into the guy and pushing him relentless with the blow. the ability to place them adjacent is as helpful as the sidestep enabling you to better set it up. I like that the strength picks up*when his printed dmg goes down in order to carry*the slack. brawn puns
062b destroyer - it's cool that the framework of your set sets you up organically to do a character dial of the destroyer and the prime as an armor dial. cool things like that makes the set feel more lived in. corrupted spirit is just so danged cool. I assume the pilot is meant to be deal the colossal stamina dmg instead of the armor (i'd include "instead" for clarity). that makes this such a beastly thing well-worth the prime moniker on such a simple tweak alone. really really cool, dude. when can you take over as lead designer for wk? honestly, the dial is awesome enough as is, but the disintegration beam sp was a cool tweak on the rce. the full dial sidestep is well-served through the dial to highlight his options, particularly the end-dial pairing of ppb/cce which i'm fond of
070 space armor - for no real reason, I got the space jam song stuck in my head. you're welcome. the flavor is on point. it's a specialized armor that does best in the environment and for the purpose (anti-cosmic) that it's designed. you'll really want map roll for this guy. I appreciate the add of the special terrain as that's becoming more and more of a thing (though for clarity's sake i'd say "...when it begins its movement in special rules terrain"). enviro suit adds some extra effects that lets it keep going and plays with the idea of anti-zero-g combat. tractor beam not sold separately
025 titanium man - titanic three kw ftw. I knew I could count on you. for some reason the conditional charge really revs my engine. it's very easy to work around (work into?), especially with the sidestep to help. but a lot of times its the limitations that interest me the most, how you're guided to play the piece. fun stuff. magno rings are a fun add to incap that's super thematic.
061 iron man model 37 - wave of the future is a clever way to cut the cheese out of most PaP problems. nothing free or easy or passive. it's something you're going to have to use to use. may be the best PaP I've seen. I like the auto-pilot option at cost with the counterbalance of the conditional regen. what an interesting take on unibeam. instead of teh uber power it usually gets, it's an interpretation of the right tool for the job. and the fact that it's a power action to activate cuts away the PaP overlap. such a clever design. no flavor text ?
022 iron man 2020 - you did it. you managed to make rocket skates translate well into clix . combined with his high move rs and his jerk-face pc, he's going to come in hot. ram punch is a ton of fun. rs away to fade shot, then come in on those sweet skates for a big punch the next turn. totally radical
033 iron man - while the s are interesting, the star*of the show has got to be interference. nerfing d6 rolls is all kids of jerkface and worth keeping tony within range of the opposition to keep his hss from being mean, too. offering a 10pt option of ow on the ubercheap is interesting and sets him up to be a cheap pilot
007 iron widow - an interesting take on an unfavorable version of nat. surprised there's no "ultimate betrayal" aspect of the dial. her sabotage and subterfuge effects are solid and on a tankier dial than expected, she should do quite well.
053b reed - the gets the prerequisite plasticity taken care of but interestingly gives him some old school invince that can't be outwitted since it's not a standard power. that makes him a very effective tie-up before you even add the ss and pc. he'll do his job and plenty of support on the side. bouncing ball as more control that's the opposite of tie-up is an interesting mid-dial take. no cabal or revengers kw?
016 mr fantastic - oh my goodness, that picture makes it so obvious what a nightmare 2 stretchers fighting would turn into . sturdy tieup (thanks for the toughness) that's supporting, oddly similar in tone to the sr prime. I appreciate the extra reach and the extra long tieup motif we've seen a few times, but why 3 and not 4?
053a mr fantastic - this version doesn't feel as distinctly different from its counterpart. there are different support powers here at the cost of his tie-up, but still 2 supporters. I do like that end-dial he picks up a range focus we don't ever see on him. that could definitely cause a surprise endgame when your opponent thinks they're too far away from reed to be bothered by him. the longer range of 4 (I see it now) will be just enough of an added reach to catch them off guard.
063 dr doom - ooooooh. call mcdonald's cause i'm lovin that costed . doom a la carte. every game will be a different game with 72 different combinations x3 point costs. and factoring in opting not to use the costed (but why would you? WHY?!?) there's 219 different doom dials on this one unique sr. well done, man. great replay value. and even greater is your ability to pick with abilities to getafter getting a gander at the opposition. I haven't gotten to the rest of the dial yet and i'm already in love. the sp is such a "curse you, Richards" which is an awesome design (both effects) to scuttle tieups against your tentpole and really highlights the esd of his sp by keeping the dirty plebeians away from the undisputed king of latveria. even the 50 pt seems like a viable option with your alternative "don't stand so close to me" sp and the fierce 3rce coupled with invuln. sure he'll go down quickly, but that's doom saying this is all beneath him and deucing out
071 buster armor - hmm, modular catch-all buster armor? I like it! you know, batman gets the bad rep for paranoia but tony's propensity for busting buddies needs an intervention. lol, "busted character." '90s baron is nostalgically brewing up some sick "your mama's so ugly..." jokes. the range/close focus dependent upon the busted character is a cool way to keep it simple. I also like the conditional upgrade to his durability. the offense is cool, that you can (at a terrrribllllle cost...) opt to not be one-trick and take an improved smack against anybody, but its bread and butter will be to toast*the busted. this is my favorite take on the armorbusting pun
072 infamous iron man - amazed this hasn't been clixed yet. perhaps in abpai. his anti-mystical is very cool. I like that instead of just being protected pc, you let him "counterspell" with his own alakazam. further representing his blend of tech and spells with his movement abilities is cool, and lets me as the player feel like i'm using thrusters to rs or spells to pt. man oh man that sp! whoof, no wonder he's a unique chase. that's got a lot of power but at the same time not broken in that it's like another kind of outwit on top. the second click stop click makes that soft stealth/esd up top actually sing and gives him tons more durability than what's on paper. really like this dial. and yes, in response to your outwit flavor text, I did read each of his powers in the voice from the '90s cartoon in my head
100 iron duck - I love you. you made iron duck. that's just too cool. even if the dial was lame*it would be cool just by showing up. I like the shifting revert (reverting focus?) one-way trip out of the armor that opens up options. ha, you made the unibeam headlight very effective. the double knockback would be hilarious to beholdduck pun
101 nixon - bwahaha. he can join zombie Lincoln, Luthor, Osborn, horne, ultimate cap and btas atom in a hall of presidents team . the leadership effects are cool in encompassing his resignation. and détente as an active in-game form of force collusion is amazing. SO much board control on a bity little quarter-pointed piece.
10. 028 Space Knight - let's kick this list off with these generics. you didn't give them a pass, you give them top shelf treatment and made them a mini army i'd love to play. the versatility is there, the control in which dial to pick to best complement your roll is awesome, and the fine details make this all the finer, that you get trimmed the colors down to stuff they already didn't have any of on the dial, so no roll is a no-roll. great work
9. 061 Cutting Edge Armor - the reason this suit is on the list is POWER actions. woven tightly throughout this design is a balance of a whole heap of POWER actions, but which one to choose? the way it inhibits the PaP in how it interplays with the options truly highlights the PaP and makes every choice you make count. this isn't a wishing ring of easy outs. you have to be as clever as tony to put together the perfect weapon needed to take out the enemy
8. 068 Stealth Armor - man I love that sp. the nerf on attack boosting is so so clever. the thing I love isn't the only thing I love, though. ed hss? pretty strong, so appropriately limited. and then you took that limitation, and turned it into a plot point on the dial, enabling a failed breakaway to be a cool mechanic and an awesome callback to comics. well done, mate
7. 024 Guardian Battle-Suit - the suit itself is awesome, but what sends me over the edge is in addition to the conditional effects, the palindrome design is functional, giving you a wildly different gaming experience depending upon the pilot. this is so multi-purpose with the same dial that it screams brilliance in execution. awesome out of the box thinking
6. 059 Psycho-Man - oh man. where to begin. this has got to be the coolest cat with mc ever. the breadth of the mc options are as interesting as they are thematic. there's just so much flavor oozing from this guy. AND there's the hatemonger pog that does great anti-teamwork stuff. AND there's the microverse sp that lets you feel like you've shrunk everyone else to be your playthings. so über cool dude, I googled the umlaut to give it to you
5. 071 Buster Armor - modular busting? hulkbuster, thorbuster, phoenixbuster, capbuster, thanosbuster, gandalfbuster, ryubuster, spockbuster, blockbusterbuster, hell, hulkbusterbuster . the fun factor is just off the charts. and even beyond the conceptual cool of this dial is the execution that makes all that bustin' make me feel good. the way you've incorporated the different basic types of combat into the buster design lets you feel it's more than generic bonuses but tailor made for the fight, the very heart behind buster armor. man I love this dial
4. 048 Silver Surfer
3. 026 Silver Surfer - these two are a marriage made in heaven. this package deal provides so much versatility buy still maintains an awesome balance in not overdoing on either dial via the inherent limitations of their respective PaPs. I love just how much each of these can do on their own, tbf, but put together you really feel like you can wield the power cosmic to its fullest through clever planning and not just cheese. so well done. love these guys
2. 043b air-walker prime - galactus pog! need I say more? I know you knew I'd know to put him in here. but let's run through it anyway, because you deserve more unsolicited praise. the pog itself is amazing, terror-inducing and every bit the feel of "the coming of galactus" dread once it lands on the map, heck before it comes, looming as a threat the minute air walker steps*onto the map. but it's not just the pog, it's all execution. the way that it comes onboard is brilliant. balanced and it's own kind of mini-game. your opponent will be throwing everything at Gabriel-bot to keep him from reaching his goal. the dial itself is cool, particularly because you left it trim, relying wisely on the pog's prodigious power to pull the weight of primeness. and cherries on top? KO a full-fledged 200 pt piece to keep the pog on the board if you want. let us know who's boss walker pun
1. 063 Doctor Doom - was there any question the unquestionable greatest would be here. that opening custom option is an invitation to the player to custom design their own doom dial, and the fact that it happens as the fight begins, lets you feel every bit of the superiority of doom lording it over the lesser clix that would deign to challenge his reign. you get all of the clever and all of the power and if you want, all of the mysticism of doom wrapped up in one neat package that only leaves out the cheese. VERY well done. the only bad thing about this dial is the glorious return of doom to actual clix will pale in comparison
Thank you so much for taking the time to comment on every dial. Sorry it's taken so long to reply.

I had like three different partial set ideas; the armor designs, an FF set (w/ galactus heralds and Elders), and a Days of Future Past set. I just decided there was enough crossover that they could be mashed up into a set. Like you said, cross-marketing of this type was no big deal in all the early sets.

055 sentinel omega class - I also love how it continues the previous mechanics and how they can play off of each other's tokens since they're operating from the same database it's thematically on point. speaking of big guns, omega is bigger and badder in every way and feels like that mutant-hunting murder machine that mama muties tell their bairns about to keep them behaving
I'm glad you noticed that the analysis tokens work for both. In retrospect, I should have worked it into Nimrod somehow also. Hmmm... It may not seem like it, but I tried to keep as much of Omega Class points on his dial in values and standard powers. The Prob was there to show how the were the 'brains' of the organization.

041 rachel summers - huh. mind link is subtle but strong. in the right build that could be amazing. nice out of the box, there. speaking of, her dial comes in soft and supportive but her teeth flash when things get serious. what a clever way to pack a lot of phoenixy-punch into a cheaper dial. But lest your opponent think they’ve got her pegged, that surprise rce on her red click numbers keeps things dicey enough to be interesting
I was afraid making her mind link a power action would nerf its effectiveness, perhaps a passive trait would be better and make her more worth her points, (though at 65 she's probably doing just fine as is).
This dial is to represent Rachel in her native future timeline and her 'fish-out-of-water' era when she first entered the mainstream timeline. Her life before you embraced the Phoenix persona. She was fairly timid until something triggered her to turn it to 11. She was one of my favorite.

012 contemplator - I can only imagine how hard it was to craft a guy who's schtick is thinking and not doing
You said it, my friend.

i'd be willing to see him at 70, ...I can see why he doesn't have the primordial power ability as his big draw is not using up actions. his long range even inhibits the need to move him after he camps on turn 1 in a nice vantage point. I guess incap could've been it, but adding it to him (over gardner) would radically change the design and lose its charm. there's something to be said for knowing when to break out of a mold (even one of your own designing) for a better design than forcing something. fantastic
70 looks good for him. Yeah, I've been rethinking the primodridal power trait to go with everyone, but he just doesn't lend himself to any use of Colossal Stamina...
Quote
036 possessor - what a wild design.
Points for stealth pun.
Quote
as his own range without the staff wouldn't be enough to do anything and with it is smallish to begin with
I agree. I think I'll change it to reflex a 4 max minimum range. It should be confusing enough to everyone now to meet WK's QA/QC. He just seems really limited and overpriced at 85 points. I know the guy is suppose to be about blinded by (bright) light, but it rarely comes into play in most of his appearances.
Quote
056 astronomer - perhaps his take on power primordial could be that he doesn't take colossal stamina dmg from using rce without dealing dmg? too wordy?
I think that's a good idea.
Quote
060 ego - I've never been fond of ego in clix. yeah I get hung up on the scale issue.
I agree. That has also been my problem. My resolution was the colossal retaliation bit. My idea was that, if the fight were not on ego, he'd be in an avatar, scale issue fixed. If he was on the planet (hence the fictional "Living Planet map") the colossal retaliation thing is now FREE, representing him being everywhere. I also like to imagine some location bonuses for the map.
Quote
I do think at 300, there should be something else going along with the objects. perhaps a conditional bonus in the sp that also uses barrier?
Good call. Added it to the power.
Quote
069 hydro armor - I appreciate the in the though I think i'd prefer it on the dial and grant him to make up the difference.
Done and done.
Quote
019 force - his late game barrier is a wonderful force-flex effect that's awesome board control.
That's my favorite part of this design. I'm always looking for new ways to give barrier some oomp.
Quote
010 heather hudson - heather's alpha signal will be a fun way to gather the gang. little surprised there wasn't a to give her a piloting bonus. then I saw the suit itself . patience is a virtue. love heather. alpha flight ftw
I did the same thing looking over these dials again. I was sure I'd done something to make her shine in the guardian armor.
Quote
024 guardian battle suit -the Delphine Courtney name drop gave me a grin
My mistake was not including a Delphine Courtney in the set. What was I thinking.
Quote
044 james hudson - the attack sp is a nice throwback to the lamentably lost ata (RIP ). the resurrection is quite a gamble. chances are nothing. but an equal chance of him coming back for or against you is such a risky move that you and your opponent might wind up in a game of chicken with neither of you wanting him to get KO'd. lol. that would be a hilarious effect on gameplay. i'd gamble it
Yeah, I loved ATAs and AF's was almost mandatory. The resurrection trait was my play at his silly overly convoluted rebirth story, first with Delphine coming back as guardian (which was cool), then him actually coming back...oh boy...
Quote
008 roger bochs - I wish his attack values were higher so he could support better
Your wish...
Quote
040 box - neat effect on the the piloting limitations. it's super limited but the effects are nice. using the you were able to get the 2 different ways the two boxes used their armor with such a simple change of wp or range. the cybro helmet is also another way to drastically change the playability of the suit.
This was a tough one. I didn't want just anyone able to 'phase' inside the armor and be pilot, but then again, I didn't want to limit it so greatly that it would be unplayable without Madison or Bochs. The 'brain-box' was my way around it, a de facto pilot.
Quote
058 Madison jeffries - wow! technokinesis is SO cool. an awesome limitation that lets you just put it all out there on the dial itself, allowing the singular text of the the parse all the difference. it's even cleverly worded to enable him to make vanilla attacks normally. this completely transforms the mc, the tk, the awesome ppb into flavor that's wonderful. even the PaP takes on a whole new light that's cool and cheese given the . you could've stopped there, but once again came up with even more awesome on the dial. the second granting an awesome regen power to everything he rides is glorious and makes it distinctly his
Thanks. I thought the trait gave a rather elegant solution to the problem of technokinesis.

017 iron man model 1 - walk through walls is such a flavorful limitation on the . it's amazing how you can make me smile and enjoy a dial more by taking something away .
I love making tweaks like that to add some flavor to the dial.

006 rhodey - this would also let us finally get rhodey-as-ironman in the classic armor that's surprisingly absent in a game that loves excuses for resculpts
QFT
Quote
027 war machine - the dial is great, compact and full of offensive options that demonstrate the distinctive war machine style. but let's just zoom in on that awesome sp. you feel every bit of the "unleash the kraken" of his fire-for-effect maneuver. targeting every enemy with a set damage sets it above standard pw and the balance work of making him rest to reload is so cute I think it's flirting with me
Made some slight changing to the wording on the attack SP. I like adding a reminders of things like that.
Quote
047 norman osborn - though I think the power level for green goblin is overmuch
Yeah, I agree. I must have been thinking of the Ultimate Green Goblin or something. He's been neutered.

011 thing - you made me wait for the ever lovin' blue-eyed thing and I was hoping to see you continue sf on your f4. digging the throwback to the si thing (shamefully still the go-to thing to field, c'mon marvel ). giving him the added oomf to his quake is also cool. let's your opponent really feel that hotdog cart . feels very thingy and I love the sculpt. oozes that grimm swagger
Saddly, SI thing is still my goto when I dust off FF.

037 thing - simple brick here (pun always intended)

007 iron widow - surprised there's no "ultimate betrayal" aspect of the dial.
I thought about it for a while. I'd done traiter mechanics in dials before, but just couldn't come up with a good one for her. Just decided to focus on the armor.
Quote
053b reed - interestingly gives him some old school invince that can't be outwitted since it's not a standard power.
Yeah, I always felt invinc was great for stretchy kind of guys. Easy to damage, but hard to damage a lot. It's not as good as old Invinc, in that it just reduces damage, though he does have protect exploit weakness. (Man I didn't realize how much protected: EW I gave out in the set).

My problem was Reed does so many support options that I felt to keep the cost down I'd split them between both dials. 1st dial is the tie up close piece, this one is the range piece. Not my best work, admittedly, but it'd still the best Reed to come out in over six years.

5. 071 Buster Armor - modular busting? hulkbuster, thorbuster, phoenixbuster, capbuster, thanosbuster, gandalfbuster, ryubuster, spockbuster, blockbusterbuster, hell, hulkbusterbuster . the fun factor is just off the charts. and even beyond the conceptual cool of this dial is the execution that makes all that bustin' make me feel good. the way you've incorporated the different basic types of combat into the buster design lets you feel it's more than generic bonuses but tailor made for the fight, the very heart behind buster armor. man I love this dial
4. 048 Silver Surfer
3. 026 Silver Surfer - these two are a marriage made in heaven. this package deal provides so much versatility buy still maintains an awesome balance in not overdoing on either dial via the inherent limitations of their respective PaPs.
