I thought as you did at first, but now I'm not so sure. As the map gets smaller and smaller, it gives more and more advantage to close combat, unless you think there's a "sweet spot' that exists for range below 24 squares and above 0.
I'm thinking of a shrunk (is that a word?) down version of the "four corners map."
Perching on one corner of a building there is advantageous enough--if the map is shorter, it' will give a figure an even bigger "effective range."

I've been wrong before, though.
Yeah, but in that example, it doesn't play any different. If you stay one square out of their range, they still have to move to hit you. I think it's only when a range figure moves that these differences will be apparent.
As long as that perch square doesn't reach into your starting area (i.e. you have somewhere to escape to), it shouldn't be a problem. Now, trying to get to a square adjacent to the building he's on, without being in his line of fire angle, that might be the bigger problem, if you're trying to sneak around behind.

Exactly.
It would be a problem if you could shortboard, too. (Well, a bigger one anyway.)
I still say it will make range figures more effective. The figures with smaller ranges/no range will now be forced into an opponents range even faster.....
I love all the changes!!!! I know the knee-jerk reation is that there will be too many uni's but, remember they have been producing less and less cases. With the limited production runs this will ensure everyone gets all the figs they need/want. first people complain about not enough uni's now their worried about the market being flooded? Come on! Just be happy Wizkids is listening. I say Kudos Wizkids!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can neither agree nor disagree. I'm pretty much saving the rest of my opinion until I see the map.
I DO think, however, that if they use a copious amount of blocking terrain in the future for THESE particular maps, that they can force people to start looking at close combat figs for this. My reason being that the map is much narrower between you and your opponent, and that if you hide behind a long wall, it's even harder to range 10 you with a running shot. You're most likely going to have to come within chargine range.
But that opinion will be reserved for if and when they do the maps like I hope they will. If not, that's how my side of the map is gonna look

I am not for anything that divides players into two categories. Free maps for tournament figures. Free Le’s for tournament players. I have every figure, my three sentinels, waited for a chance to buy my Galactus, and brought new players into the game. I just don’t play in tournaments. But alas I am not the type of player that should be rewarded with a map? Now I need to start hanging out with the hordes of unwashed at my local B&M?
Beh!
So........you should be rewarded because you're "above" all those people who do play in tournaments?
You don't support the approved play, you don't get the goodies that the people who do support it get. You don't like that, find a mirror, clean it off, take a good look in it, and yell at that guy.
So FORCEing is the same as "giving stuff away to encourage behaviour"? Interesting.
Making me by bricks locally so I can get what I should get even if I buy on line is forcing me. Sorry if that is confusing concept to you. I have *every* HC piece that has been made to date. Every one. I'm a collector and I play. I don't play in tourneys. I really don't like the people there. I've been to 3 of them and what I've seen is pretty sad.
So now I get to go into a local shop and give them about $100? (12 x $8) so I can get the 'free' figure and a map? I'm going to be awfully suprised if my local shops have any for free to most people. Seems like it would make sense to include 1 in a case much like the figure poster. Nevermind I just bought (3) cases online. To buy (3) cases here locally would be impossible since there wasn't even 1 store that ordered more than 1 case as far as I can tell.
Why is this the type of "behaviour" they want to encourage? I use to buy from my local shop. Then it became very obvious the packs were being opened and re-sealed. So I went to online and every case I get I know I'm getting excatly what I've paid for. Another local shop here loves for you to open the boxes in the store so if you pull a unique they will offer you 1 or 2 new boxes for it, then slap a $30 price tag on it. I've seen them do this with little kids that just think its cool to get more figures. Doesn't seem right to me. But I guess this is good behaviour to reward.
I like collecting the pieces. I like playing the game, with my friends who know what a shower is and know how to act like someone over 5 years of age. But I guess I'm not the type of customer that Wizkids wants?

So if you have every piece, and don't play in tournies and don't go to stores, how do you get the promos and LEs? I suppose you wish them out of the air and they appear? How is this not a hard concept to grasp?
You, as a collector, prefer to buy online. You get a discount from your online store that regular stores can't beat. There's your "perk".
I, as a collector, prefer to support my local store. I pay more for my cases, still discounted, but not touching your deal. Now I am getting a "perk" for supporting my store getting a special LE. Only one, mind you. I can't get 5 and trade them away.
You don't support your local store, you have to pay for the stuff elsewhere, just like you have been doing with LEs, Promos, and other stuff you don't have. You online buyers seem to want to be able to get everything, which is just sad. You want the "special" LE, purchase it online since you like it so much. You don't want to, support your local venue.
Finally. The lowered rarity of uniques may make some of the in-crowd and completists upset (their free perks and dupes aren't worth as much in cold hard cash), but casual players and stores win.
Who knows, maybe it will even stop the completists from overpurchasing and soaking up all of the supply.

Most of them I traded my extra uniques for. Only a few did I have to actually spend extra money on. Its not really THAT hard to figure out if you just take a second and not jump to conclusions.

There is a fundamental difference between Tournament LEs and Clixbricks LEs.
Tournament LEs are PRIZES for PLAYERS. That's a great concept and I salute Wizkids for its level of PLAYER appreciation.
A Clixbrick LE is a REWARD for what Wizkids considers a good CUSTOMER. Saying that Customer A is better than Customer B because he bought 12 boosters at once from Joe B&M instead of 12 boosters at once from Joe Online or Customer C who bought 6 boosters at a time in two shopping trips from Joe B&M. That's a somewhat offensive concept and I question Wizkik's customer appreciation.
And cheaper prices for boosters isn't a perk that Wizkids gives online buyers. Its a perk Online Buyers give to their customers.

Any completist who soaks up the supply (which would almost have to be done at the local, retail level) is a moron. That's a hideously expensive way to do it. Most of the serious completists pre-order cases, which takes 0 away from any player buying at the retail level since each of those pre-orders increases the production run by that much.
I've been a case-buyer since CT, and I'm in favor of nearly all of the changes and incentives they've announced recently. Venue play - keeping the face of the game vital is the best way to bring in new players and keep the game prominent in stores where casual contact with potential players is strongest - is extremely important to the fiscal health of the game, and needs the attention. They'll be instituting many positive moves to get people into venues by the end of the year, between the Galactus give-away, the expansion-connected free maps, and New Guy night. The increased frequency of uniques will make many more people happy -- though I still expect that when it comes to loose boosters we'll still see both the "I pulled 8 uniques out of 10 boosters" and the alternate "20 boosters and not one unique!", which will still underscore some practical utility to buying at the case level.
Really, the only bone sticking in my throat as far as upcoming changes is the removal of Super Rares. I understand why they believe they made the decision, but I still view it as one of those overkill mistakes. Just raising the level of the dials of SRs/LEs so more of them were like Sue Storm, Kurt Wagner, Cain Marko and Norman Osborne would have been enough to serve both sides of things. The existence of duplicate versions of LEs as SRs wouldn't make much of a dent if the pieces were uniquely playable and desireable versions such as these; it isn't as if super rares were just raining from the sky for the average player. Removing SRs from cases just reduces my reason for buying as much. If SRs hadn't been involved in Fantastic Forces my order would have been literally half of what it was.
What you should get? How is that determined, exactly?
Here's a simple equation:
You buy the boosters, you get what's advertised in the box. So long as you get what was advertised in the box, you got exactly what you should.
People who buy clixbricks will get what was advertised to them. They get boosters and they can get an exclusive LE. They're getting what they should.
Sorry if that's a confusing concept for you.
I would be nice to be able to buy a brick from a local store. I have not been able 1 booster of FF. When I bought cases (XPL to LEG) off the intrnet I got it on the release date. I tired to support my local store with FF.
How about all those people that tried to buy Legacey? How many would have been able to get a brick? Wizkids need to make sure our local stores get thier orders, not like my store who ordered 4 cases and got 24 bosters of FF
