It depends : If Professor Xavier is not adjacent to an opposing characters then it's fine : go for it. The Prof is the one making the attack, so he's the one who has to meet the prerequsite for the attack (including not being adjacent to an opposing character).
The chosen character only lend his "eyes" to Prof X, nothing more.
In fact, Professor X could selcet twot targets he can draw a LOF to from teh square of the chosen character, wether or not this character is adjacent o an opposing character, and he wouldn't have to attack the adjacent one at all if he don't want to.
Example :
. O . . .
. F . O .
. O . O .
F is the friendly character Xavier counts range and LOF from, O are all opposing characters. Charles is in his starting area, all alone.
Well, using his Trait, Xavier can target any two of the O with Psychic Blast. All are within range from F, and you can draw a clear LOF to all of them from where F stands.
You know everyone loves to be the villain. Hugh Grant
when will we have a final word on perplex and outwit for ICWC ?
I've been wondering the same thing I just used the Prof. in a tourney on Sunday, and it caused a lot of dissention. I would like it to be crystal clear.
I don't see why it wouldn't work for perplex and outwit. It says "damage powers." Even if you don't draw lines of fire or whatever the argument against it is, it seems like logic says he can use them with the power. I know a lot of rules junkies need it to be told to them if they found some sort of wording problem, but to me it seems any judge with sense would say you can use them.
well thats the thing....it makes sense to me too. the range part should be applied where it is relevant, i.e. the speed and attack powers...and the Draw LoF part should be applied where IT is relevant, i.e. the damage powers. But like you said, "rules junkies need it to be told to them"
I just used him the other day with Emma Frost, Namor from SI, and Roullette, who hung back with the Prof. and PC'd his rolls. this team was devastating!!!

The question is whether the 10 squares for Perplex/Outwit are counted from the friendly keyword character or from Professor X. (Everyone agrees LOF can be drawn from the friendly keyword character.) The problem is that the power says "range." And neither of those powers use range.

Ahhh. Could use a small clarification. I mean I know the big thing with rules questions is always intent VS wording. But you have to think that when it says he can count squares for damage powers from the square of the character then using perplex/outwit from that square makes sense. Even though it uses the word range, and those powers do not. Thanks dude

I want to see this come up the the Sinister jail map. Xavier in a Starting area cell, Juggernaut 6 spaces away but well out of LoF. Wolverine saunters over and says, "Hey bub, you forgot how to charge through all those walls."
Vulture: I'll drop you from the sky and watch you drop like a rag doll! Spider-Man: And this'll be when? After Ock rips me limb from limb? Or after Venom eats my brains? Oh, I almost forgot; he also has dibs on my spleen...
In that case, professor x and two or three researchers would be a nasty combination on a scientist theme team. Huge damage potential plus team prob without any real threat of being forced to re-roll would be tough to beat, especially if you use spider-men to advance.
What if someone put Brilliant Tactician on Chuck? Would he be able to change the source of his perplex for friendly keyword characters with every use?
Not to perplex more than legally allowed, but say he was going to pump Scott and Warren's attack value. I use Scott as the first use of Perplex. Warren is behind blocking terrain though. Can I up Scott, change source to Warren, and up again? Or does the choice of Scott as the perplexer lock him in?

I've been wondering the same thing but haven't wanted to confuse the matter. (Although I was thinking on an Illuminati team.)

All of the perplexes via BT happen at the same time, so they occur from whatever the origin was, whether it was Prof X or a friendly. So lines are drawn from only one source.
