I hear you. Bud should be telling the folks who are complaining his rule of thumb when it comes to these matters:

What would folk think of a "Mercenary" keyword? My thought is, someone with the Mercenary keyword could be played at their normal point cost or

As you reveal your force, pick one: For 10 points (or some such) this figure may trade the Mercenary keword for a generic keyword
or
For 20 points (or some such) this figure may trade the Mercenary keword for a named keyword.
These points are added to the figures point cost, and must fit in your build total.

I'm just spitballing here, but this would add an iteresting twist to Death's Head, Deadpool, Taskmaster, Random and some other guys.

What do think? Or what would have to be different? Or is it just an unnessasary complication?

I personally would love a mercenary keyword. To be able to play Deathstroke, Deadpool, Paladin, and Taskmaster on the same team and have it be thematic would be cool.

It's already thematic, it just isn't a theme team.



As for Kuthell's suggestion, I would be concerned what type of precedent loaded Keywords would play in this game.

That said, if we're going to introduce the concept of loaded Keywords into Clix, I would want to do it with more than just one instance.

Other than Mercenary, what other keyword could this mechanic work under? Maybe the Spy keyword?

Silly me, I wasn't even looking at it from this point of view, but me likey!

And since this is a thought I didn't have for the keyword, (you know, using the keyword, duh) to Muncho's point, there is a simple solution. Create Mercenary as a keyword, then give it an ATA. It would use a mechanic that all ready exsists, and get the result I was looking for.

Is that a better way to go?

It may, but I see that as more helping your team long enough to get what they want, then leave. With a Mercenary they don't get paid until the job is done. The point I didn't comunicate about Mercenary is that this would represent having to pay them to be on your team.

I really like this....BUT:

1) Little late in the game to be introducing generic keywords. With the past couple of sets, the support for existing generic keywords has been waning, I wouldn't be surprised if what we have is all we're gonna get.

2) I think this would work best as an ATA thing. I would NEVER play the "Mercenary" theme team, but I would LOVE the "wild card" aspect, i.e. having SHIELD hire Deadpool for a job. Would lead to some interesting teams, that would still get theme bonuses.
