I am completely puzzled by Human Target in this set.
I will also lament with many other posters... WHY no Cyborg?!?! In all the advertisements of The New 52 and Flashpoint the DCU editors were working hard to push to make him a first tier character. This is one serious omission!
I am very saddened that we do not have Jimmy Olsen, Atomic Skull, Mon-El, Nightwing, Flamebird or a new Mxyzptlk. NW/FB?Mon-El have been key in many Sups stories even the recent New Krypton stuff... disappointing to not see them. Atomic Skull would have been an excellent villain to include as a new figure. We never get enough good villain clix in these sets it seems... (Capt set being a rare and pleasant surprise)
As for another version of Lois... I would have welcomed a Flashpoint Lois of the Resistance variant; instead, of another everyday 'reporter' version of Lois. Imagine that dial!!!
As for Seven Deadly Brothers in this set as an off-theme character... I am perfectly OK with getting one of the Great Ten in each set until we have a complete team.
The Superboy and Supergirl sculpts are rather disappointing. I would have preferred a sculpt from the the 1994 #1 issue or Adventures of Superman #500 for Superboy. The Supergirl sculpt is not an iconic sculpt from an issue cover or anything like that. It needs to be something that the sculpt says 'THIS IS SUPERGIRL' when you see the sculpt. Not a generic flying girl! The Origins supergirl is my choice of sculpt.
As for the Intergang 'Thugs' ... I guess I will have to see if my venue will allow me to use aa008 Street Thugs in place of regular Intergang flunkies...
I'll have to change the sculpt and play ws008 Peter Parker as my Jimmy Olsen. Perplex, Senses and wildcard fit him for the occasions he had weird powers of his own or when superman saves him (senses).
I don't really care for Superman, but I admit, the Flashpoint stuff, BL Maxwell Lord, Lobo, and Doomsday kind of made my decision for me. I figure, between a friend of mine and I, our case and a half should mop up the main characters we want. I understand the raging on certain characters though. I'd have been pissed if they did the Cap set without Bucky or something similar.
Why is there no regular universe superman and lex luthor. They said this set would contain the definitive superman and all star is not that. That would be like putting ultimate cap as the definitive cap. I love alot of this set but the fact that these are missing makes me sad. We don't have a modern legal Lex for injustice gang or revenge squad.
Exactly! I'm very dispappointed with this set. I'm not complaining for the sake of complaining (and I already expect the kind of answer "yeah but we couldn't please everyone") but siriously, no regular Superman in a SUPERMAN set? Well...that's ****!
if there is no red son i will be hugely disapointed
a superman set without red son is not a real complete superman set for me
and if he is a chase, then as i always say, chase sucks... widely available pieces rocks
The more I mull over the set list the more upset I get. Especially when I compare it to Web of Spider-Man.
Web of Spider-Man gave us multiple versions of Spider-Man, both of regular Parker and others. The Superman set gives us one (non-continuity) Superman.
Web of Spider-Man gave us a plethora of previously unclixed obscure Spider-Man villains (Prowler, Puma, Will O'Wisp, Molten Man, Chameleon, Anti-Venom, Menace, Vermin, Cardiac, Rocket Racer, The Spot, and Morlun. And that's not even counting the U-Foes.) The Superman set gives us Live Wire and Silver Banshee; I suppose you could count Ursa and Non, but even so it's falling down on the job and if those obscure Superman enemies didn't make it in this set, now they'll never be made.
Web of Spider-Man even found room for some of Parker's non-powered supporting cast; specifically Mary Jane and Jameson. Both of whom are far less adventurous or competent than Lois or Jimmy Olsen! Lois and Jimmy both go out and get into trouble ALL THE TIME, it's what they do. They'll often even manage to save themselves without Superman's help (*often*, certainly not always). They both even had long running titles of their own.
Lois Lane got done as All-Star Superwoman, but that character existed for only 24 hours and outside of regular continuity. I think it's kinda neat to see stuff like that sometime, but not when it come at the expense of getting the most basic and recognizable version of the character!
GAH!!! The exclusion of so many fundamental Superman characters from this set is really starting to get to me.
Part of my problem is that I'm more of a DC fan and I had been told that THIS set was when we'd finally get those obscure and thematic characters that Marvel had been getting with Hammer of Thor and Web of Spider-Man, only to be so completely let down.
I don't mind the Legion Stuff (mostly). They're a big part of Superman's history and unlike others I'm glad the three founders weren't included. All three of them got solid version in the Legion starter set, which isn't too hard to find cheaply online. I like that most of them are previously unclixed characters. Braniac 5 and (I suppose) Wildfire were due for remakes. My main gripe is that Starboy and Starman take up two slots; I'd have MUCH rather seen one of those get relegated to being an LE. I know Mon-El would be another remake, but I think a much more appropriate one than Wildfire or the second Tom Kallor.
Max Lord should have been double-dialed (or the Black Lantern one just skipped). If there were to be two Max Lords, one of them should have been the old J.L.I. shmoozer.
I'd have preferred no Magog at all, but if he had to be included than it should have just been the JSA one with the KC-redo just skipped or done as an LE.
All-Star and Flash Point definitely could have been dialed back. "Project Superman"? Another SR Barry Allen? The aforementioned Lois Lane?
Human Target and yet-another-Doomsday could have been taken out as well.
*sigh* and so on and so forth...
One problem is that WoS had 9 more slots to work with.
Even in that, I wasn't a huge fan of the end list.
Superman is huge-- he has a ton of characters to make. While I agree that I wanted a regular-Earth Lex and Superman, and am more than thrilled we got so many LSH figures-- and I do consider those LSH related. Even better, they are not remakes of the LSH starter figs, which are on the whole still quite playable. Instead, they gave us almost all new members to fill out teams.
As a consolation, they are giving us a Fast Forces pack in December. I do hope that those dials are more like teh GL FF and less like the Thor in terms of power and efficiency.
Last, we did get a few classic Superman foes in BatB as well.
My biggest takle-way from this is: I want 60+ slot sets, not 55. Those few slots make a difference in terms of what gets left out.
It seems much more likely that Superman Beyond will be the "unique" LE figure. No way would they put a chase figure in such a prominent spot on the booster and in the solicitation posters.

When it comes to Superman and Batman, Grant Morrison is nothing but a 50's cover band in a 70's psychedelic funk style.
