Also haven't seen anyone talk about The Prisoners, I'm kind of interested in seeing it, wondering if it is worth it.
Yes, also wanting to check out Prisoners...hopefull this weekend.
Saw Riddick...was OK, would've been fine to have waited for DVD...simply OK, not great or even real good.
Re-watched Iron Man 3 as my wife had never seen it yet so rented DVD. Was hoping maybe I was too harsh on it last time and that it would be a bit better....no it was just as terrible this time, still a real disappointment.

First, yes Iron Man 3 was really, truly awful. Second, I was not aware that people could still rent DVD's.
More to the point of the topic however, a few recently seen films.
The Way Way Back - Fantastic, easily my favourite film of the summer.
Blue Jasmine - An interesting change of pace for Woody Allen. Not his best, but still totally worth watching.
Monsters University - Another sub-par post-Disney Pixar movie. I hope this is just a slump and not what we can expect now that Mickey and the gang have taken over. The good news is the next couple in the pipe are not sequels, and have interesting ideas. We'll see.
Despicable Me 2 - Not as good as the first, but still a lot of fun.
Agree completely on both Monsters & Despicable ^^^^
Just got back from watching Prisoners, very good thriller...both Hugh & Jake delivered fine performances. Very surprising ending...would have to rate it about a 4 to
4&1/2 bags of popcorn out of 5 and a big 2 thumbs up!
Iron Man 3 was my favorite of the Marvel movies. I don't understand why people disliked it.
Yeah, yeah, they changed Mandarin...but it was a better story than any Mandarin story in the comics.
I saw IM3 and World War Z this week. WWZ was quite boring, and I had a hard time figuring out why I was supposed to care about the characters. I was rooting for the zombies.
went and saw Gravity, it was an entertaining spectacle. 3.825 stars.
The trailer for the next Hobbit movie was shown. It looks cool, but apparently there's a bunch of Legolas and some elf chick making googoo eyes at each other, which was of course not in the book. on the plus side, it looks like Beorn will be in full action.
Wife drug me to Gravity. I thought I didn't like it because I went into it with a bad attitude (which had nothing to do with the film). But then she didn't much care for it either.
We felt Bullock's character was fairly uninteresting, and she's in EVERY scene. Also both agreed the film repeated itself every 30 minutes.
Visually, it's like nothing you've seen before. But it's the same thing over and over.

I honestly don't think I know anyone who hated it because of Madarin. Everyone I know has either never heard of the character or treats the films like an Ultimates or Earth 2 version like I do, where things will be different. I hated it more because of inept direction that made it look like an episode of Smallville with a bigger budget, or worse yet the film versions of Losers and ATeam. The dungeon scenes looked like they were shot in a friends basement by a guy who had just bought his first camera. And that finale was painfully flat. Never has so much exploded with so little impact. Also the poor, logic free script crammed full of flat dialogue and the kind of "jokes" you see coming from a mile away. It had all the subtlety of a Dane Cook routine. It was an action movie more in the ilk of those unwatchable films with Stallone and Arnold and Jason "running with a package" statham, than what I have cone to expect from the usually clever world of comic book films. This hunk of blowin' stuff up and actin' cool junk wasn't in the same league as the great comic book flicks we have had over the last decade.
In other news Gravity is non-stop fantastic through and through.
The last movie I saw in theaters would have to be Pacific Rim. I highly recommend it for those of you who haven't seen it yet. If you haven't, then go find a friends with a ludicrously sized HDTV, Bring your Blu Ray copy over and crank up the speakers!
Always try to leave an internet argument at lvl 1!
Gravity - if you're interested with story or action or suspense or characterization, this ain't you're movie. I believe this is a purely audio-visual entertainment. The score is just great. I'm a long time fan of Discovery Channel, Animal Planet and NatGeo and the likes but I have to say I have never seen the earth shot that magnificently. And the earth was the only visual entertainment here. I've watched it in 2D and I can't imagine just how great this movie would look in 3D.
Sharknado: Not as fun as I hoped. I love B-movies...so long as everyone involved is in on the joke. (EX: Slither, the greatest B-movie ever!) When the actors are looking for a big break or to rejuvenate their careers, it's kind of sad.
This is the End: Good premise, really funny to start, but it got old fast. Danny McBride seemed to ruin it for me, and I usually think he's pretty funny.
World War Z was OK. Better than I expected, but not super awesome. I would watch the sequel.
Hangover III was also OK. Not that funny, but I was invested enough to see how it would end. The ending scene (like all the other movies) was probably the funniest part.
