I just read where Josh Homme explained they used the name “Queens Of The Stone Age” because “Rock should be heavy enough for the boys and sweet enough for the girls,” Homme said. “That way everyone’s happy and it’s more of a party.”
It seems this may be true for most of my favorite artists. No matter how heavy a song, it’s generally better when there is still a strong, real emotional connection.
That brings up an interesting question, what are heavy songs where there is a strong/real emotional connection?
question #2, is this emotional connection with the music/melody, lyrics, or a certain part of our life/memories?

I have a strong emotional connection with all these songs. Of course they are all from my teenage years when I was discovering the New York Hardcore genre and punk rock scene. I was fortunate to see all of these bands live multiple times during the late 80's and early 90's. I would say for me, it is a combination of the music, the lyrics and the life memories all rolled into one. A lot of mosh pits, crowd surfing and piling on and singing along, music was dangerous.
Wishing for competitive Judge Dredd figures for Modern Age...WizKids are you listening?!?!
REARVIEW MIRROR [Pearl Jam] - getting in a car and bailing out of an abusive family, especially as a sequel to "Daughter," with "finally the shades are raised" line. Of course, I think it was originally intended to be about suicide, but f-that. Get the f out of dodge and find a better life.
I guess the most emotional and heavy songs just have something that triggers my brain, not necessarily because of subject matter but the music itself. (songs are in order of song length)
I haven't been posting as much lately. I've been adding music to my music library, and I've been busy listening to those tracks and by the time I'm done, it's too late to post anything. I've been jonesing on the band Quicksilver Messenger Service lately because I'm trying to identify a great guitar riff that they did on one of their tunes that has a Wild West vibe that I thought a part of the song The Fool but now I realize was not. So, I'm a bit distracted.
I also realize that my taste in music isn't really quite in sync with most of the people who post in rock wars, or here. I have posted a great deal of music that I consider brilliant but have gotten a crickets response from most of you. There used to be a participant in rock wars that seemed to love nearly everything I posted. His user name was Drunky and he was from France. He disappeared several years ago and i miss his presence. I remember teasing him by stealing the essence of a comedy routine by the late Greg Giraldo about French guys picking up vulnerable American tourists (female) to give tours on mopeds.
At any rate some tunes by QMS that don't have that guitar riff I remember but can't find.
What About Me: Their protest song and also their most famous I think. On a par with the Buffalo Springfield classic For What It's Worth. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LSlfuFwYagU
I want these clixed: Doc Savage, Fu Manchu, Tarzan, The Shadow, The Green Hornet & Kato, Conan, Solomon Kane, The Phantom, King Kong, Universal Monsters, Black Orchid, Manhunter (Paul Kirk), Xemnu the Titan, unclixed Kirby Fourth World characters, and Lilith, Daughter Of Dracula.
I guess I should've posted this just a bit sooner, while it was still June. And not sure if I should be posting this at all, but I've come to appreciate the kind of 'living room' here, and everyone sharing their thoughts, opinions, and opening their hearts.
I came out pretty late in life, close to mid 30's. Even though I was raised in a very loving environment, being gay wasn't really talked about or expected, so to say. Even now, I don't think I'd call myself gay, but probably saying I'm attracted to men instead.
Long story short (well, it's still pretty short ), the song that really helped me during the coming out was this one (as initially I struggled to tell it IRL, so I used a letter instead, making the 'read about it' appropriate):
And another one I'd still like to share, even though Pride month is over (I've seen one of his other songs mentioned, but think I like this one the best):

If asked to name my top five favorite performers of all time, I’m pretty sure Quicksilver would be included. Certainly above the Beatles and Queen, maybe not above Led Zeppelin or Band-Maid, but still included. I’ve had all of the songs you linked in playlists since I first digitized my vinyl collection. Hope you find the “unforgettable” riff. Al Bundy found his lost song; I’m sure you will eventually.
As my own aside, I injured my hip and it’s been extra painful to sit and type, so I haven’t been able to share much recently. I listed a broken collarbone as a pain level 6 in the past on the 1 to 10 scale, so I usually don’t whine too much when injured. Martial arts has let me experience a bit of pain. This has been an 8 or 9. Every recent post has been an experience. Today was my best day in a few weeks and if it continues to feel better, you may have to suffer through a few more upcoming comments.

When I get a wall of songs to listen to in a single post it is just hard for me to be able to listen to all of them. Most of the time I focus more on posts that have a song or 2 to listen to and then be done with it. Most of my music listening is done at work and I can't get this site at work, so that's another thing too.

Variety is the spice of life, I apologize if my musical links are too heavy / loud / obnoxious. Without you sir, I wouldn't have known Captain Beyond is a band not a comic character. Also, I personally enjoy your insight for all things music.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That is what I enjoy most about this thread, the different insight people have about the music they enjoy. Yeah I listen to songs, maybe not all, and yes there are songs that I enjoy but ultimately I appreciate the conversation we can have about music.

OK so I went thrifting this past week looking for a dining bench. What is a dining bench? It's a bench that you use instead of chairs at the dining room table. We are not going to use it at the table, it will be used for sitting in other places. I also found a ton of CDs mostly for 50 cents and a few at $1-2. Here is a list of some of them...
Blues Traveler - Four
Aretha Franklin - Best of Radiohead - OK Computer
Alice in Chains - Face Lift
PArton, Ronstadt, Harris - Trio
Tangerine Dream - Tyger
Alanis Morissette - Unplugged
Cranberries - To the Faithful Departed
The most disappointing album was from Blues Travelers, it was just not for me. IT sounded like most of the songs were the same and the only saving grace what when John Popper played his harmonica.
The best surprise was Radiohead's OK Computer. When it came out I remember seeing the music videos for Paranoid Android and Karma Police and never thought much about wanting to listen to anything else since I only really appreciated Karma Police of the two songs. OK Computer is an album where you need to listen to the whole album. To me but not according to the band through interviews, it is a concept album with a theme of dystopia. Radiohead say that it is not a concept album. If you enjoy listening to albums or really enjoyed Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here, I highly encourage you to try OK Computer.
What about you? Are there any stories, memories, or knowledge you want to throw down from these albums or artists? I would love to hear it!

I always liked the takedown of standard pop music structures that was "Hook" by Blues Traveler, while also engaging in the same kinda thing. Not on that album, "But Anyway" has one of my favorite lines - "I think the past is behind us, be real confusing if not."
AIC, I was more into Dirt and Sap, but I'm glad to be reminded of Sea of Sorrow.
Always liked Alanis' "Uninvited." I had no interest in seeing that movie City of Angels it was based on, where Nic Cage is an angel who gives up eternity to love Meg Ryan, but for some reason Alanis distilling that concept down to this song is a lot more compelling.

At the time, I grew tired really quickly of Blues Traveler. It's hard to describe how *I* got there, but I'll try to paint a picture. I was an adult student in a college town that spent a LOT of time at bars that would happen to have bands... there were a few different fun bands... some with talent! Included among the favorites were a funk group, and a group with a fiddle player. The shows were always fun and energetic, but there was a limit to how much I could really dig the music absent the energy of the crowd. This is sort of how I feel about John Popper and Blues Traveler: obvious talent, but I'd get saturated on them quickly.
In my head, BT basically got categorized as a "harmonica band", which isn't entirely fair, but it also isn't wrong. In my head I'll categorize some bands as "guitar bands", "fiddle bands", "percussion bands", whatever... and among those bands, they have to add some variety otherwise I'll pretty much just jam along with the hits but only reach for an album if I want some background noise.
