Next week, Thursday the 12th of June - Anti-Thematic Teams!
400 point constructed tournament.
Retirement is not in effect.
Two rounds, two battlefield conditions.
None of the characters on your force may share a keyword.
Any Questions?
Obviously characters with no keywords will be easiest to build around here. Common keywords like Martial Artist make things hard - if you choose one Martial Artist for your force, that's the only character with that keyword you can have.
EDIT: I came in first this week, with a force that really had no commonalities whatsoever: Arcade, Ghost Rider 2099, veteran HIVE Trooper, experienced Multiple Man, Nighthawk (modded veteran Deathstroke), rookie Scarlet Witch (Fantastic Forces), and LE Super-Nova.

Most of us have a Pariah event dial, so bring yours along!
EDIT: Dion's "Crisis of Infinite Batman" team beat my "Ares and his Soldiers" team for the win!
No great surprise, but the range-focused Soldiers didn't do too well against the sneaky Batmen. Pretty soon it was down to just Ares... and then he started to do some damage, and Pariah turned against them too. In the end over four of the seven Batmen were eliminated before Ares went down for the count.
This made up for the way that the Soldiers took down World's Finest without a single loss in the game we'd played earlier.

Also - a note for players at the Tin Soldier who may have a bunch of commons lying around that they wouldn't mind giving to a good home...
There are a couple of people frequently at the Tin Soldier who might appreciate them. The first is a (French?) gentleman named Guillaume, who was interesting in picking up some for his kids to play with (the oldest is nine). He thinks that they'd love characters they're likely to recognise, but anything would be cool. Guillaume is prepared to exchange a little money for unwanted commons - I didn't ask how much, as I probably have some that I'll never use anyway that I'd be happier going to a new home. Especially if the oldest kid gets a couple of boosters of Batman AlphaClix some time and eventually becomes a clix player!
The second is a woman named Laura who has played a couple of games of War Machine but also picked up three or so Marvel HeroClix boosters (got a super rare in her first one...). I think that Laura is visiting the Tin Soldier mainly to find people to play games with (she's originally from Darwin?). Maybe she'll prove to be too much a War Machine fanatic for us to steal her away for our Thursday night tournaments, but personally I am all for giving a few figures away to somebody who might be interested in looking at the game.
300 point constructed tournament. You must field at least five characters, and you receive three actions per turn.
Retirement is not in effect.
Two rounds.
No battlefield conditions, feats, or special objects.
Instead of normal HeroClix rules, each game is played according to the Alpha rules and the Alpha Powers card. All game elements not part of HeroClix Alpha will be ignored, and the following additional Alpha event rules will be in place:
and symbols function as if the character possessed the Leap power.
Bystander tokens are permitted, and they do count for KOs.
Figures with bases larger than 1 square are not permitted.
Reinforcements should be limited to five additional characters.
If 5 KOs are not reached before time is called, the player with the most KOs is the winner. In the event of ties, the player who went second is the winner.
Any Questions?
Obviously the simplest way to build your force is to use characters from the Batman Alpha game, but you can also use regular HeroClix characters (note that characters with Barrier, Impervious, Battle Fury, or special powers may not be as good). See this page for more details about playing an Alpha game using regular HeroClix characters.
EDIT: This week was won by M.O.D.O.C.'s all0winged team, followed closely by Rob's all-Batman team! I came fourth.
I have never said "Damn your Leadership!" so often in a tournament. Seriously, that power is ridiculously good in Alpha!

Next week, Thursday the 26th of June - Alpha!
[*]Instead of normal HeroClix rules, each game is played according to the Alpha rules and the Alpha Powers and Abilities card.
Is the plan to play on the Alpha maps?
It could be a rather long game if not.
Maybe throw in the Universe Starter map as a third choice?
According to the Alpha rules sheet, you're supposed to put those small maps together to play a game. A regular map is only going to be slightly larger than four Alpha maps together; I don't think it's going to be a problem.

Ahh, I didn't notice that part of the set up. It all makes more sense now.
Next week, Thursday the 3rd of July - Tax Brackets!
1050 point constructed tournament (but see below); three actions per turn.
Retirement is not in effect.
No battlefield conditions.
Your force must consist of exactly six characters, one each from the following brackets:
1-50 points
51-100 points
101-150 points
151-200 points
201-250 points
251-300 points
Each character may have one feat (they may not exceed their bracket with this feat).
No colossal characters (Sentinel, Sinestro).
Any Questions?
Note: The minimum force build possible with these six brackets is 756 points. The maximum force build possible with these six brackets is 1050 points - a 294 point difference. I don't recommend that you play a force of less than 900 points, but whatever works for you!
EDIT: The winner was M.O.D.O.C. with a JSA-inspired force, while my Kingdom Come force came in second.

Next week, Thursday the 17th of July - Fantastic Four!
400 point constructed tournament.
Restricted environment (retirement is in effect; the earliest legal set is Supernova).
Two rounds, two battlefield conditions.
All of the new rules included in the Fantastic Four starter set are in effect.
Any Questions?
If you don't have access to a new Fantastic Four starter set, you can download the FF rulebook and Powers and Abilities card on the WizKids website or view them in the Documentation section of HCR's Units section.
EDIT: Coming in first was Mina, in what I believe was her first tournament at the Tin Soldier!
Coming in last was me with zero points!

Next week, Thursday the 24th of July - Free Willie!
Next week is Free Willie, but I'll let James post that one because he hadn't decided on all the details yet. Everybody who comes gets a free Willie Lumpkin LE bystander to take home!

Any word on what the format will be this week yet?
Willie's been kidnapped, drugged and left to die in the streets (or in outer space/a bank/whatever). whoever can find him and get him home will earn his eternal thanks/ learn juicy intel before he sobers up.
400 point constructed tournament
Retirement is not in effect.
Two rounds, two battlefield conditions.
WILLIEBefore the first round the second player places a Willie Lumpkin bystander as close to the centre of the map as possible. Willie is a third force on the board. He automatically breaks away from other figures and does not get tokens placed on him.
Can you help me get home?Any Character adjacent to Willie but not adjacent to any other opposing characters may take a power action to give Willie a move action.
I think its this way at the end of any full turn in which Willie hasn't moved the player whose starting zone is furthest from Willie may give willie a move action.
If Willie is inside your starting zone when the round ends you gain 40 bonus points
no points are gained for KO'ing Willie.
Willie is affected normally by Mind Control and Telekinesis.
I played an all-Skrull team for Free Willie (Elektra, Ms. Marvel, and Skrull Emperor), and reversed my recent wave of bad luck. Two clean sweeps won me yet another Warskrull. Khaine came in second (Arachne, Darkseid, Green Lantern, Spider-Man), Pat third (all Joker featuring Emperor Joker!), and James fourth (I didn't play against his team).
Next week!
Next week, Thursday the 24th of July - Secret Invasion Sealed [i]or [/i[ Draft!
If Secret Invasion is in stock at the Tin Soldier then we'll be playing a 300 point sealed game (two boosters). Otherwise, we'll be playing a draft using figures in the draft box.
