He's brutal in multiples, but yeah, you tag him once and he's relegated to close combat.
I've played him and won, but I've also seen him get one-shotted a number of times.
Very true. But if you can't get to him in a timely fashion he can definitely pick your team apart without you even getting a chance to retaliate. It's all in the map roll. You lose, you're in trouble.
Also, WK giving him the Martial Artist KW didn't help matters. There was this kid that used to play at a comic shop in York, PA that would run HoT Cap/ WoS Nightcrawler MA theme teams almost every week, usually with SR Deadpool and OOTS Batman among others. Terrible player, but pieces like Cap and Nightcrawler can make even the worst strategists dangerous.

Well yeah, fronting him on a Martial Artist team is going to cause problems, particularly with NC. Though that's less strategy than it is "I'ma throw these potent figures together and run roughshod."
Best outing I had with Cap was pairing him with the grav feed SHIELD ladies (starting with Stealth) and having him blast from behind a wall of mobile blocking terrain.
Longest-Reigning Drunken HeroClix Champion - anyone got a liver?
He has always been cheese. He is obscenely undercosted for what he brings to the table. He is a total game changer. There are very few figures in his weight class that require you to take them down immediately or run the risk of losing the game because of them. And if the player using him won the map roll, that is much easier said than done.
As for my headache figures...
-Rare Deadman from JL. I bought a bazillion boosters of that set and never pulled one. Ultimately had to go to evilBay and pay like 5 bucks for him.
-Rare Spidey from HoT. I bought very little HoT when it came out(I had mostly quit the game and only got back in at the tail end of the set's availability), and couldn't even find someone that would trade me one. Only finally traded for one this past spring.
-Vet Rogue from IC was probably the worst. I'm an X-Men geek first and foremost, and she was the only decent version of the REV so she was pretty much a must have back then for that reason. I bought more boosters of IC than any other set(they were only like $6.99 back then and I was living at home with a job but almost no bills), and it wasn't until like the 40th or 50th pack that I finally got one. I almost crapped my pants. You would've thought I pulled a White Lantern Flash or something.
As far as buying clix; I would warn all fellow clix'ers to avoid evil-bay. The items sold there - for the most part - are being sold by folks who are either totally out of their minds, or are completely unaware of true value of the figures. (True - you get a rare deal, but not usually.)
If you are looking for a decent and regularly fair priced location to get stuff you need I suggest looking here:
Now I am not saying you are going to find everything there - they still are going to have items out of stock sometimes - and they are not going to sell Chase figures for pennies on the dollar either; but you can generally find what you need, at a relatively fair price there.
I am not going to BS you though; some generics are not priced fairly there, at all. They know folks buy multiples of certain figures and, unfortunately, try to capitalize on that fact. In that vein, they are basically on par with evil-bay. Technically, though, even these are usually better than EB. In the case of generics, I would say check all avenues and go with the best price you can find.
[Just an fyi, had you looked here, you would have found that same Deadman for only $1.]

I'm pretty sure I vehemently disagree with this statement.

Heheheh. Try Darkstar, HoT Cap and 3 GF Howling Commandos on their Stealth/Perplex dial for a 300 point Soldier team, or add SI SR Nick Fury to make it 400. Now your wall of mobile blocking terrain has Stealth wherever it wants. And Cap has 3-4 perplexes.

Well, if you go by the BINs then things get silly, but many times timing/persistence can pay off with eBay.
If you keep an eye on the bigger retailers like Troll and Toad, you can get some ridiculously good deals on stuff that's more than a set or two old, even at BIN. Shortly before GSX came out I got 3x Dominic Petros LEs for like $1.25 with very reasonable shipping. Less than a dollar apiece in the end. Kept one for my own Brotherhood teams, and hooked up 2 friends. Also got AA LE Harvey Dent and AA LE Edward Nigma from them for like $25 altogether, including shipping. But yeah, usually auctions are where the deals are hiding.

Exactly. He's not "cheese" by my definition, but I think that term gets throw about way too much. He can be nerfed by map choice, by any decent hth figure that you can get to him wih any speed (a HSSer, a Charging figure that is backed by cheap TK, etc.). Plant a tie-up piece with Poison next to him and he's in real trouble. He's not pushable at all. His AV upfront is decent, but not über. He's just efficient anti-stealth with a glass jaw and some serious limitations.

Sure, but here (and in your example cheese team below), you're talking about building cheese teams. It's not HoT Cap that's the problem, it's that you've built a team that makes his good attributes insufferable, or surrounding him with other pieces that are worse (like Nightcrawler). As an individual piece, he's not bad enough to earn the cheese label. In fact I'd rather face HoT Cap than quite a few pieces in his weight class.
CarlosMucha: that is like be running in a Olimpic race competition just one step to get the gold and then a Giant children place a mirror in your side and you discover what you are really a hamster over a whell and the gold is just a slice of chess. Avatar Summoning: Original GotG, Melter, Whiplash

I would definitely disagree on his cheese status, and his pushability. He's 72 points. He has front-loaded a 20 ranged D(followed by 2 clicks of a 19 ranged D), a 10 AV, 3 clicks of 3 damage and an 8 range with 2 bolts. He has 3 clicks of his SP up front, 2 with running shot, all with 3 base damage. His SP essentially gives him built-in Trick Shot (which was a 20 point feat if you recall) that allows him to fire over buildings and blocking terrain in addition to characters and hindering terrain. If someone gets in close and hits him for a few clicks, he can retaliate for 4 damage of his own, and not take pushing damage to do so. And he has two of the most abusable generic KWs in the game- Soldier and Martial Artist.
There's a reason that he's the most sought-after/valuable non-SR/LE/Chase in the entire game. And it's the same reason that WoS Nightcrawler goes for $15-20 bucks: They're both entirely too good at what they do for their point values.
