True. Here is what I suggest.

Wade, JK, and Pax go down and see what the army is up to. Wade will attempt to charm some information out of them, while JK sees what he can see, and Pax is there in case things go south.

If things DO go south, Jawa can use his million and one voices to impersonate an army on the other side of the hill, in an attempt to convince them that attacking would be a bad idea. JK will be the one to attempt to sell them on this, as he has the highest intelligence.

I'll use my attribute to avoid the Chain Chomp and retreat to safety.

Thoughts on this plan?

I feel like a good way for things to not go south is for me to kill the lakitu, so that the army understands that if it chooses to engage with us it will not have air support.

Some intelligence gathering may be best for us at the moment. I doubt that they raised an army to engage us. Anyone have a serious issue with that? These could be our allies or we could be needed to save Bowser who seems to be in trouble to fix this reality. I feel like an Exile...

Hey, I am just trying to figure out what we are supposed to be doing here! We don't even know who the bad guys are, this game is feeling very much like the Exiles, so I think we are going to travel from dimension to dimesion having to fix things.
