Location - Cost: 2
New York Skyline
Version: Urban Site
New York Skyline is not unique.
When you flip New York Skyline, you may return a character card from your KO'ed pile to your hand.
Exhaust a location with a cost of 2 you control >> Put the top card of your deck into your KO'ed pile. If you put a card with a cost of 3 or more into the KO'ed pile this way, target character named Spiderman you control gets flight and +2 ATK/+2 DEF while attacking this turn, but cannot cause breakthrough this turn.
Reasoning for this card: As I stated before, the one thing I think the "Peter Friendly" Spider-Titans concept could use is more recursion. I.E. More ways to both get cards into your KO'ed pile and more ways to get cards back *from* your KO'ed pile.
This one location achieves both of those goals. Besides fueling the Titans/Spider-Friends synergy, it also has a great fun theme to it ... Webslinging!
The card's concept, essentially, are the tall buildings in Spiderman's home town that allow him to swing through the streets at such high speeds. While secretly fueling the Titans/Spider synergy, this card gives the fun of allowing him to swing from tall buildings. By using the stipulation of locations with a cost of 2, you are also including in the locations Spiderman can swing from...
Fisk Towers
Titans Tower
U.N. Building
Gotham City
Coast City
Metropolis
Squadron City
Daily Bugle
X-Corporation
X Corp: Hong Kong
Sinister Citadel
Dr. Fate's Tower
Dracula's Castle
Wundagore Citadel
The vast majority of tall, swing-able buildings are cost 2. Extending the locations Spiderman can swing from to all locations with a cost of 2 enables both the sensation that Spiderman can swing from almost any tower through any city, but grouping locations with a cost of 2 adds another level of consideration in card inclusion in a deck, trying to swing from location to location in your resource row is just fun, and focusing on locations of a cost of two help prevent the card from being exlpoited.
As we all know though, web-slinging also has a bit of aim involved, and Spiderman has made a couple of mistakes while web-slinging in this regard. Therefore, not only is the card's relatively powerful effect delegated to a somewhat random effect, but if the card is put in a deck that tried to get more than just a useful splashing effect and recursion synergy out of it, all those 2 drop locations it puts into the deck to fuel the web-slinging would also add to the probability of each one's failure, which helps to curve off the maximum potential of the card.
A great effect to throw in a deck, but not something that will allow you to focus on it without it starting to tumble over it's own feet. It even secretley helps promote curve! And as a bonus on top of all of that, it has a version, "Urban Site", that while doing nothing, allows future card designs to easily add an extra layer of synergy with the card.
More thoughts. Forgive me if I come up with an idea that has already been mentioned, this thread is much too long to go over before posting.
Cost: 3 (Plot Twist)
Wrapping Up
Picture: A Criminal or Villian of some kind tied to a building-side-flag-pole with Webbing while police cars are arriving on scene below.
Ongoing:
While you have 5 or less resources, whenever a character is stunned by a character named Spider-Man you control, that character cannot ready this turn.
Personally, I love this idea. Not only does it really fit an element of the comic-books very well, it could be really effective if used correctly.
Cost: 2 (Character)
Spider-Man, Registered Hero.
Avengers / Spiderfriends
2/3 - Range
Picture: Most recently, when Spider-Man fought Captain America, he ended up stealing his shield away. That's kinda the image I had in mind.
Reservist.
Boost 1: When Spider-Man comes into play, search your deck for a card named Armored Spider Suit, and equip it to Spider-Man. Shuffle your deck.
Whenever a defender is stunned by one or more team attackers you control, you may return target equipment to it's owners hand. If you do, draw a card.
His mechanic can work as both Meta-game against equipment reliance or could be used to bounce back one of your own (even the Spider-Suit) equipment for card draw, so it's a meta-game effect that won't become dead-weight.
Gives Spider-Clones a 2-Drop Spiderman.
Fits team-attacking theme of both Spider-Friends and Avengers.
Fits equipment theme of Avengers and brings in a Spider-Friends equipment.
Reservist fits Avengers theme.
Version Registered Hero leaves future mechanic possibilities open.
Also, I'd recommend printing a new version of Armored Spider Suit in whatever set this would be in. It would give two very different options of what he could search out, and make the boost have relevance in sealed play. It would also introduce the suit Tony Stark made for him into the game.
Cost: 4 (Character)
Hybrid, Alien Symbiote.
Spiderfriends / New Warriors
7/6
Evasion.
When Hybrid comes into play, put a +1 ATK / +1 DEF counter on him.
Whenever Hybrid attacks, you may return a character card in your KO'ed pile to your hand.
Remove a counter from a character with the version Alien Symbiote you control >> Search your deck for a character with the version Alien Symbiote or the name Toxin or Carnage, reveal it, put it into your hand, and shuffle your deck.
This is really more of a "just would be fun" design more than one that I think could see tier-1 play. I noticed that not only is "Alien Symbiote" already a version shared by a version of Spider-Man and a version of Venom, but both cards naturally aquire +1 ATK / +1 DEF counters, and since I'm constantly stating that grouping cards together in new ways is a great design philosophy, I couldn't resist making a card that made the Alien Symbiotes (even the two that have been made that don't have an "Alien Symbiote" version) relevant.
Since when Alien Symbiotes lose pieces of themselves those pieces end up turning into new Alien Symbiotes, the real direction of the mechanic was kind of obvious, especially with the +1 ATK / +1 DEF counter Alien Symbiote version theme already in place.
I hope you think this would be a fun card. And with the abillity to turn counters into power-ups, an extra power-up from attacking, and Spider-Man A.S. turning power-ups into counters, I could actually see him being used quite effectively in the right deck.
A link to info about Hybrid is provided here.
Here's a new set of cards, this time borrowing the 'you control' aspect of Doom... Hey, if Doom anchors the Doom affiliation so much, I don't see why Spider-Man isn't anchoring his friends (you can easily build a Spider-Friends deck without Spidey!) as much as Doom is for his affiliation...
Activate -> Draw a card. Use this power only if you control Spider-Man and only once per turn.
---
Prowler<>Spider-Man, Spider Impersonator
Spider-Friends, Cost 2
ATK 2 / DEF 3
Evasion.
You are considered to control Spider-Man.
Whenever Prowler comes into play, you may look at the top 4 cards of your deck. If you do, put any number of those cards at the bottom of your deck in any order and put the rest on top of your deck in any order.
"The Prowler once posed as Spider-Man to help the wallcrawler keep his identity a secret."
---
Scarlet Spider<>Spider-Man, The Spider Clone
Spider-Friends, Cost 3
ATK 4 / DEF 4
You are considered to control Spider-Man.
Evasion.
Activate -> Stun target character with cost 2 or less. Use this power only once per turn.
Activate -> Target character exhausts a character he controls. Use this power only during your attack step.
"Ben Reilly's webshooters allowed him to stun his opponents with stingers or incapacitate them with impact webbing."
---
Mattie Franklin <> Spider-Man, Inexperienced Successor
Spider-Friends, Cost 4
Flight
ATK 7 / DEF 8
You are considered to control Spider-Man.
When Mattie Franklin comes into play, you may discard a Spider-Friends character card. If you do, search your deck for a character card named Spider-Man, reveal it, put it into your hand, and shuffle your deck.
---
Spider Sense is Tingling!
Plot Twist, Cost 3
Play Spider Sense is Tingling! only if you control Spider-Man.
Spider-Friends characters you control get +3 DEF while defending this turn.
Ongoing: Exhaust a character named Spider-Man you control -> Turn Spider Sense is Tingling! face down.
---
Impact Webbing
Plot Twist, Cost 3
Play Impact Webbing only if you control Spider-Man.
You may exhaust a Spider-Friends character you control. If you do, exhaust target character if its cost is less than the cost of the character you exhausted.
---
As an additional cost to flip Spidermorph, discard a card named Spider-Man.
Ongoing: At the start of recovery, you may ko a stunned character named Spider-Man you control. If you do, search your deck for a character named Spider-Man with a cost less than or equal to the number of resources you have in play and put him in your front row exhausted. Then, target a character you control named Spider-Man. That character cannot ready this turn.
Free--> Characters named Spider-Man are not unique this turn.
Ongoing: While you control more non-stunned characters named Spider-Man than stunned characters named Spider-Man, characters you opponents control get -3 atk.
While you control more stunned characters named Spider-Man than than non-stunned characters named Spider-Man, your opponents characters get +3 attack and may only team attack.
Whenever the number of stunned and non-stunned characters named Spider-Man you control becomes equal, draw two cards.
Play only during the combat phase and only if you control a Spider-Friends character.
Negate target effect. You may resolve this card at any place in a chain of effects after all effects have been put on the chain and both players pass to an empty chain.
****Example......Batman attacks your SpiderMan. He adds Flying Kick to go 2 over your defense, you play A test of resolve, he plays Fizzle, you play Spider Senses. No more cards put on the chain. A normal chain would have the Spider Senses resolve first, then fizzle, the test of resolve and then flying kick. This card could be moved in its position in the chain so that you have it resolve before fizzle and fizzle .....well...fizzles itself. Probably a judges worst nightmare..
Test of Resolve, like the idea but man it needs a drawback if you can place it anywhere on the chain. how about "Play only if you have played one other plot twist this turn" or "take one point of enducne lost for each plot twist played on this chain"
A new Spider Sense is Tingling!, keeping Captain Marvel in mind...
Spider Sense is Tingling!
Plot Twist, Cost 3
As an additional cost to play Spider Sense is Tingling!, call a judge's attention and say "My spider sense is tingling".
Target Spider-Friends character you control get +5 DEF while defending this turn.
Ongoing: Exhaust a character named Spider-Man you control -> Turn Spider Sense is Tingling! face down.
Sorry but this card is broken...especially in my Spider Clones deck. Play exhuast my defender to turn it down and play over and over again. Guaranteed brickwall everyturn.
Sorry but this card is broken...especially in my Spider Clones deck. Play exhuast my defender to turn it down and play over and over again. Guaranteed brickwall everyturn.
But wouldn't it be fun to keep saying "My spider sense is tingling" each and every time??
Honestly, I wasn't even thinking of the viability of the card, I just want to hear players say attention-grabbing stuff like "SHAZAM!"
