Now that the full set list is confirmed, I like a good chunk of the set, but there’s parts that now feel like a cruel tease, mostly for Thunderbolts rosters. Making Blackheath and Skein, but not Harrier and Cyclone is rough. And still no Joystick.
And I get reusing Hawkeye to make Trickshot, but that led to some to believe at least the later roster of Dark Avengers would be finished. A bummer it still isn’t.
Or that we got Machinesmith for the Skeleton Crew, but no Mother Night.
The upsides: Hydra High Council from Secret Empire can be completed. And you can play much updated versions of the OG Thunderbolts and Masters of Evil and now teams with Robbie Reyes (as tough as it may be to get him).
We haven't seen the full set yet, but thus far CAAV has 31 starting 18s or better, and 42 starting 11+s.
Sets with colossals have their own curves, but here are the other recent standard sets' stats:
ABPI:
42 11+
42 18+
RE:
42 11+
40 18+
EX:
39 11+
39 18+
SWB:
42 11+
40 18+
That's why I say defenses are weaker this set than usual. While I expect both stats to rise as the final dials are revealed, I don't think the defense track will reach the norm. Attack, undoubtedly, will surpass the norm. This makes the average roll to hit much lower in a Sealed CAAV environment, and further exacerbates defensive weaknesses.
By my calulations, the set looks like this:
CAAV:
57 11+
40 18+
"With great power comes great responsibility." - Ben Parker
Plus side, this set is made of incredible figures, Thunderbolts especially. I feel like each of them are going to be worth tracking down ^_^
EDIT: Sorry, just saw this was about the point value over the rarity. Yeah... that part's a bummer, but if you're picking favorite T-bolts over rocking the original team...
Oh I am super thrilled bout selection and this is very small gripe, they just do they all the time. I know it is hard to get every team to an even or close to even point cost but an original lineup and a mere 5 points just hurts. In home games I let it slide I can use the 45 point Zemo that was pointed out and is a good substitution.
Would love to know the thought and design process that led to a decision to move the game in this direction.
There is always a chance that character selection played a role. As I look across the set list, at its MASTERS of Evil and SHIELD and such, it's easy to justify high attack values due to extensive training.
And I get reusing Hawkeye to make Trickshot, but that led to some to believe at least the later roster of Dark Avengers would be finished. A bummer it still isn’t.
What I do dispute is the mantra that seems to keep repeating that "this set makes everything before it irrelevant".
Power creep never makes the latest sets irrelevant but a little creep each set keeps "outdating" more & more past sets. It's annoying.
The fact that characters like Corsair & Hepsaba are doomed to "uselessness" unless they get remakes is just sad. Thankfully Sidewinder is no longer on that list.
Retirement and power creep are two things I blame for never getting characters like the Zodiac. How can we get them when everyone needs a new modern legal this guy or that guy. That said, we have gotten a ton of great characters that aren't exactly A or B listers which is great.
Oh well, I guess. Things clearly aren't changing in that respect. They want new players playing with new pieces not home players building a universe of characters from day 1 to present that can all actually play together & be worth their points. That's what I want but it's just not happening. (shrugs)
I'll get over it & keep playing. You take the good, you take the bad, and there you have the facts of life.
75 and two more clicks of life or at least Indom would have made him more satisfying.
He is better than his 90 point CWOP set version, but for such a dynamic sculpt, I wanted a figure who could last longer than turn 3.
Invulnerability? Eech. Imperv or Invincible was needed. 9 attack? Oh, right, a throw back to those garbage designs of "you can get back to mediocre as long as you ____"
I can see why they needed to rein in HIS Colossal Retaliation to 6 range...
He is worth his points - but no one really likes the tough guy who's job it is to show how strong the enemy is.
Get blasted to click 4 (his worst click) and then push him to his movement SP. Then colossal retaliate and share his Empower. Then your opponent scores 50 points.

9? Garbage design? He’s fine for 50. Actually he’s better than most 50 pt pieces.

One outrage at a time, please:
You: A 9 attack is garbage design?!?!?! He is fine for 50 points!!!!!
A) I complain about the design style where a figure gets lowered stats because they have a modifier you are expected to use. The JSA got this for years as does Alpha Flight. I hate it because it forces me to use certain elements when a simple "let's just include that in the base dial" would be more appropriate.
You should have been defending the need to add a trait's wording to Atlas and how awesome that is for the game. Maybe you have a convincing argument. But you misread my post. Hence the reread comment.

B) This response does not support your initial statement and clearly misses my point (hence, the reread comment). I explained what I was looking for. I even used the term "satisfying" on purpose rather than "better". You are saying, "the dial is great for a measly 50 points". That was not my point at all.
The dial is good for 50 points. I wanted a character - not a dial. So you implying, I must be stupid for not liking a dial tells me you missed the point completely. (Hence, the reread comment).
I hate a given design philosophy. You are fine to love having to spend 100 points on Guardian to get Alpha Flight better able to hit 17 defenses every time you run Alpha Flight.
I like certain characters and want them to play in a role I prefer. You can like numbers and words on a card / dial and be satisfied with whatever name they call it and what ever plastic form they stick on top.
We obviously approach the game from different perspectives.
I'm fine with that. If my perspective bothers you so, you can easily add me to your ban list. But I hope you at least understand how you misread my entire point (but don't worry, you aren't alone in that regard).
Visible Dials and Pushing Damage need to be optional. This is the way.
He is a 50pt figure that has a 12 attack top dial, and with a heavy object in tow can do 7 DAMAGE in close with Giant Reach(3). That's really all I have to say about Atlas.
Correct. I think you either misquoted a post or just meant to make the above math statement as there is no connection to what you said and what I said.
