(And, to be honest, as someone who is repelled by an LE-prize-driven tournament scene anything that will upset those people pleases some dark and petty part of me.)
You don't like the prize-driven tourney model, or the tourney model in general?
Longest-Reigning Drunken HeroClix Champion - anyone got a liver?
All of the ogres should at least give Mafia a shot at some point. If there's enough interested, I would even run another beginner's game in a week or so (since I seem to be becoming accustomed to running two games at once).
Considering the list of obligations I'm already not living up to, adding any reluctance to get involved in yet another social circumstance and how I'm not someone who looks to games for distraction, I continue to think it's wise for me to stay out of Mafia games. At least for now.

I don't like unique representations of characters being made as exclusive prizes.
Give away boosters, advance figures from a future set, solid gold sculpts on existing dials, cold, hard cash or sexual favors and I'd be fine with any of that as none of it would affect how I put teams together or play them. Prize LEs, though, bug me. I am by nature or upbringing not a competitive gamesman. The Conanesque joy of driving opponents into the ground is not part of me, and generally speaking I believe I'm much more comfortable losing with grace and humor than I am in winning. Putting a prize on the line that I actually want - and which is only available that way or by buying it off a winner or a judge - is the #1 reason I stay away from venue play.
And, no, fellowship is not an effective balance. It's a nice gesture, but nothing more.

I have nothing against it, but I do like your idea of the prizes all being from the next set in that universe (i.e. prizes for GSX all being from the Captain America set).
A few times it slowed to a surprising crawl - I'd thought I'd come back on this morning and find that it had passed 2000 last night - but yes, in general, we tend to burn through these.
I don't play in tournaments, so fear of Gandalf, Buffy or Master Chief suddenly becoming Meta-game borken, go-to pieces on teams for the prize-oriented gamer aren't part of my world.
What's funny is that the borkeness usually isn't anything fitting with the source material half the time anyway. Aside from the characters being based on the source material. Joker and Lockjaw are about as likely as Frodo and Master Chief.
I'm 100% with you on the compatability. They just should work together if someone wants them to or not. It makes sense and gives the other licenses legs that they otherwise wouldn't have.
I had noticed reading my New Avengers that the guards at the raft have a striking resemblance to the soldiers in Halo. It was one I had thought of skipping but in my mind I could justify using them. So wizkids can sign me up to take more dollars out of my back pocket.
Btw I received my Cap GF today. Opened five boosters and will likely wait for the wife to open more. It's the only thing she cares to participate in heroclix wise. Pulled Hydra Officer, Sin, Black Widow, Klaw, and Red Skull so far. THe figures look great. Black Widow looks especially good.
The prior one was exactly 2 weeks (Friday to 2 following Fridays). This one made it almost 3 weeks.
Not to be nit-picky but going by the date of the OP it's only been 11 days. Then again I don't consider myself any kind of math expert. Just figured I would say something before you got havened.
I'd prefer to have solid clix versions of Marvel/DC, etc characters, compete with comics-derived generics, too. My point is that when I looked at Horrorclix it was with the hope that this would be a supply of supernatural/extra-dimensional/extra-terrestrial creatures to bring into a Heroclix game. "80% compatibility" was, at best, a joke. Making a hopeful leap, I bought the Horrorclix starter and a brick of the first set. After a few attempts (where I needed to stick to cluttered, indoor maps and play the Horrorclix pieces more in accordance with their own rules in order to make it remotely fair) they all went back into a shoebox and have stayed there for years.
Some argued that each game should be its own and have its own flavor, and with some creativity they still can, but the dials and powers can still be compatible.
I'm not looking for other games, so it doesn't matter how wonderful Horrorclix or Halo may have been, I wasn't going to be buying into them unless I thought I could import them as stand-ins or generic hordes in a Heroclix scenario.

Anyway, if venues don't want... miscegenation, they have total control over that, just as they do now if they want to be tyrants about Feats, highlander rules, etc. If Wizkids wants maximum sales potential for any new properties introduced as Heroclix, compatible dials are a must.
See, I'm a fan of HrC. It is a really fun game with a very distinct feel, and I'm a little upset that it didn't get the fair shake it needed toward the end (by the company or gamers, many of whom weren't willing to give it a shot and instead lamented the fact that they weren't HC compatible).
Should WK decide to revive it, I'd hope that cross compatibility would be a secondary consideration vs. keeping the feel of the original game.

So I guess that Jason X vs. Wolverine crossover is out, then?
